I finally got around to looking for reviews of [Night for Nixie](http://www.reelprogress.com/nixie/night-for-nixie.htm), a film by my best **fiend**. Here’s the story:

> [@](#):
>
> Something evil has escaped from Sanmento Genetics Research Laboratories. Soon after, a series of bizarre incidents plague a small coastal town culminating in the disappearance of a well known local political science professor.
>
> Second rate detective Lee Bowers is assigned to the case, and soon finds himself on a weird trail of mutants, sinister government plots and a large spider with an unsavory appetite for human souls.
>
> Madness, destruction and big happy faces…where will it end? As the sun sets on this unsuspecting town, soon it will be Night For Nixie.

I found this review [Sy Bell’s Cult Movies](http://www.svbell.com/svbellmenupage_promotion.php)":

> Neat indie movie, this is a surprisingly good one, considering the limited budget involved. The totally independent 80+ minutes feature films are not legions, so Nixie already stands apart. The casting is credible, we don’t have the feeling that this or that actor should be better somewhere else, and the lighting design renders a very atmospheric, creepy mood. A little overuse of stock footage, or maybe just too many stock footage used in a single segment. Some scenes would have benefited to be shortened a bit. Finally, Night for Nixie deserves a better audio/score environment, we have this feeling something is missing to fully support the action on screen.

> Overall
> A nice movie, despite flaws here and there, to which indie movie audience is used to, but I still enjoyed watching the film. Well directed, **well shot** , professionally packaged and sold under $15, you can’t be disappointed…

I added **bolding** to “well shot” because I was First Unit Photography. 😃 I also did much of the lighting for the first unit stuff.

I agree with Bell about the “stock footage”. I thought it went on a little too long in the “single segment” that he mentions. (The WTO riot footage was not part of that segment, and was shot by the Director.)

And I thought that the story could have been made more clear. Explanations are there, but you have to be paying attention. It helps if you know something about Conspiracy Theories. References are made to the “Wisenheimers”, which is a take-off of the Bilderbergers; “Sanmento” sounds an aweful lot like Monsanto; “Ewige Blumenkraft” was a password for the Illuminati; “Lee Bowers” was a witness to the Kennedy assassination, who died in a mysterious one-car crash. And so on. And while people pick up on “Christina Chatterbox”'s singing vagina, I would like to have had more thigh movement.

But I have to disagree with Bell about the score. The now-defunct Georgia Pacific’s _Tin Can Gun_ is brilliant.

Anyway, I it was a nice review. And I’m glad that he mentioned the photography and lighting. 😉

Hey, Custom Flix is a very cool site. Mr. Beckwall is an editor/frustrated videographer, and he’s gonna love this. Thanks.

**beckwall** : I haven’t dealt with Custom Flix myself, either as a customer or a filmmaker. My friend likes them though. He has _Cut Up_ on Sub Rosa, and he’s not satisfied with Sub Rosa’s efforts at marketing it. I’ve only heard him say good things about Custom Flix.

Obviously, since I’ve never dealt with them, I’m not in a position to endorse Custom Flix; but word-of-mouth sounds promising. From what I’ve heard, they would be a good place for Mr. Beckwall to at least check out.
