Night on a Bare Mountain - recording of original verision?

Brief bump - the recording is a cracker. Recorded in their new hall, the LA Phil sound bold, brash, confident, extreme, everything I like to hear (I’m not a subtle musician  ). The strings work so well, dancing through the most Russian-sounding sections, where the real original harmonies have such an important role in creating the sound-world.

And it’s quite an interesting choice of pieces to put together on a disc - the original Mussorgsky sounds in places like Petrushka, linking through to the Rite of Spring later on.

I’m glad to hear that, GM, since Salonen’s “all or nothing” approach on that disc was the only potential drawback if it wasn’t to your taste.

I got a chance to hear the LA Phil in Disney Hall last year, and I have to say it was pretty breathtaking. You could hear a pin drop on stage, the acoustics are so good.
