Dang. I love to break out the insult ones for the work breakroom – real conversation starters. But they don’t seem to make them … mean enough for my taste. Perhaps its another year for my homemade chicken heart tomato sauce. Always a crowd pleaser. ---

I was sort of confused at the news coverage of this, as if people are truly devastated…I thought conversation hearts were loathed? I used to get them all the time around Valentine’s day, but now I try to avoid gelatin. Brach’s used to make SweeTart-style hearts without gelatin, but I haven’t seen those in many years. ☹ ---

[I just saw the same thing](http://mentalfloss.com/article/571507/sweethearts-conversation-hearts-cancelled-for-valentines-day). I guess the original Conversation Hearts sold far and away more than the other brands. Personally I won’t miss them, but it is the end of yet another long-standing candy tradition. ---

Years ago, I made Valentine’s Day cookies for my fellow choristers. Each cookie contained several candy hearts. From what I saw, most people picked out the hearts and ate the rest of the cookies. ---

Seriously though, the wafers last practically forever if you keep them well wrapped in a cool, dry place. 🙂 It always annoyed me that the conversation heart flavors didn’t exactly match the wafers… The pink wafers, for example, were wintergreen, while the pink hearts were nasty bitter chemical flavored. ---
