I’m assuming it had something to do with magazine subscriptions, and yeah, that’s really a shit job and yeah, he probably was fairly pissed off over getting a pretty much universal negative response. How much was racism and how much was people being naturally annoyed at being bugged at dinnertime, is anyone’s guess.

I’ve got to agree. There’s something about working retail that puts you in contact with more crazy people. I think it’s the mentality of “the customer is always right” leads people to behave like absolute assholes to retail clerks because they know they frequently will get away with it.

This is the best Pit thread I ever started.
I work in a discount store, and I usually ring up about 200 people a week, six days a week. Assuming even 5% of the population are over the top, that’s 60 whackos a day. You cannot make up some of the things I’ve encountered, good or bad.
Most AmEx people wlll take out another card or cash. Or ask if their purchases can be held while they run to the ATM. We are always willing to do it.
I see that nobody has pointed out the “Jew” comment the BBB woman made was a obvious anti-Semitic slur. I once had two young men wearing swastikas who made their purchases and left without make a scene.
And in these parts, saying big black woman is not considered a stereotype. It doesn’t imply weight, but stature. She had to be at least 5’10".

I think Big Beautiful Woman is wonderfully descriptive, although maybe a little bit polite for the pit.
To me it represents a definite “type”, a large ( ranging from taller than average and curvy to obese ) woman that is confident, well-dressed, well-made up - at home in her skin and happy with her appearance. And her race is relevant to the story.
Yes, you could have said woman but you’re telling a story and want to paint a picture.
If I am telling a story about a jerkish customer and he was a white dude with a beer belly and a comb-over and loud Hawaiian shirt I’m probably going to mention those things because they help paint the picture that brings the story to life – I’m not going to hold back out of fear of insulting the guy because dammit - this is the PIT. I came in to insult him.
