Officially its an invite to alumni to return for a visit and is usually centered around a football game where you think your team will win. For the current students its an event to choose homecoming queen/king, have a ceremony about the election during half time of a football game and then have a dance the following night. ---

\*\* Lamar\*\*, it’s not that I wanted entirely classic rock (actually my music tastes are pretty eclectic). My major beef was that the DJ played ONLY rap all night, except for two slow songs and aforementioned “Sweet Home Alabama.” I know a couple of DJs through my mom, and I’ve learned that a good DJ plays a mix of music, not just one particular string of songs that all sound alike. Honestly, I could hear no difference between the rap songs; he might as well have played the same song over and over for all I could tell. \*\* Wakimika\*\*, no I didn’t need to blow into a tube to get in. Or a balloon. Or do any blowing whatsoever, s’matter of fact 😃 **CnoteChris** , I was expecting a better mix of music, and less shouts of “make some noise.” I was also hoping for better punch, but I knew that wouldn’t happen since a friend of mine caused the Ex-Lax Spike Rush [to the bathroom] last year…Sigh. Those were the days… ---

Waitaminute… Did I just read that your friend spiked the punch last year with _Ex-Lax_? What the fuck is that all about? If you’re going to spike the punch, at least do it with booze. Ex Lax is just fucked up. What did everyone who unknowingly drank the punch ever do to you? I know _you_ didn’t do it, but you seem to have approved. That’s just fucking lame. ---

My 2 cents: I have DJ’ed Junior High and High School dances before. I _HATE_ the music I have to play, but I do it because I get paid. The majority of the kids like what I play, and I do my best to work requests in, if I think the majority would be with it. Guess what: the majority of kids that age like shitty music, and the ones who like stuff that’s good and different can’t agree with each other. Maybe half of the place hates Top 40 and Hip-Hop almost as much as I do, but they like stuff from all over the map and they hate each other’s music, as do all the Top 40 and Hip-Hop kids. That means if you don’t play the most popular crap, the vast majority of the crowd turns on you. GOD I hate doing those things. Also, as far as Hip-Hop goes, nothing is sillier than watching little suburban white kids sing along about blunts and bitches and gats. Some of those kids are experienced, I know, but a whole lot of them have no idea what it is that they are supposedly in to. I always feel for the few kids with good taste, despite the fact that they bitch and moan at me to no end, because I was often that kid back in the day, but what can you do? I have, on the other hand, been present for one or two kickass HS dances. And while most of it blew, at my sophomore homecoming dance there was a mosh pit. Everyone was in formal wear. It was funny. The DJ was told to stop playing White Zombie 🙂 ---

Eeew… that sounds terrible. I actually had some decent dances at school (as long as I avoided the bitches who took a complete exception to me for no reason that I could fathom. Oh actually I think it was because I was having fun, dancing in my horrible way and singing with the music) I don’t like clubs myself. I’ve gone a few times but I find what is more my style is a karaoke bar, as long as you can find a decent one with a good crowd who wants to have fun with not too many horrible singers. And I have done that. I like some trance, not a whole lot. Most I agree can only be liked if you are on X or K or meth (or a mixture of the three up to and including all 3 as my roomie and his girlfriend liked to do when they dragged me out to an after hours club. I never understood that. I did try X twice but K and meth were not something I wanted to do.) I actually find the country bars aren’t too bad. Of course the best one I went to played stuff in sets, a set of country followed by pop followed by something else and rotated throughout the evening. So you heard almost a little of everything. I had a lot of fun that night. Stayed sober then too. I would complain to whoever put it on, personally. But then I never cared about looking like a fool. ---

Skip the school dance. It’s been decades since they were cool (if they ever have been). Throw your own parties & do your own DJing (that’s what we didback in the day). Go raving. Get a fake ID & hit a club. Anything has to be preferrable to a school dance. ---

Granted my friend was a little nuts, and now that I think about it I’m not even really sure if he was telling the truth. I figure anyone who brags as much as I recall he did about spiking the punch with Ex-Lax didn’t actually do it. At the time though, I thought it was pretty funny.\*\* **Lucki,** there is something worse than a White Boy Rap Singalong: white boys trying to dance to it. I’m not trying to offend anyone here- I’m white and can’t dance either, but at least I don’t look like those brothers from _A Night at the Roxbury_. Back to the issue at hand: Screw being anonymous, I’m going to talk to the SCA (who spawned this dance) today when I go to school. It’ll take a bit of guts, but if I can post on here, I can talk to people. And it takes less time than typing! 😃 \*\*WARNING: Immature high school student. YMMV. ---

Oh, I hated the dances my school threw. The music was all rap, the food, when served, was wretched, and the school administration always had to fuck with it. Our senior prom, just as I was actually starting to have a good time, was cut short by half an hour so kids could go on some damned school-sponsored boat trip. No, they couldn’t just let the idiots who wanted to go on the trip leave, they actually had to announce all of a sudden that the dance would be over after one more song. ---
