I had a bike accident on Monday. Guy was parked in a bus lane and doing a quick delivery to his shop. He opened his car door just as I was passing him and I smacked into it. I went arse over tit and impaled my shoulder on the side of the door. Ambulance was called and the guy told me to come back to his shop when I was sorted and he’d “sort me out”. Went to the hospital got xrayed etc. Nothing broken but I needed 12 stitches in my shoulder (5 internal and 7 external) as I has a 5 inch deep hole in my shoulder. My Da went back to the shop to collect my bike and the guy again was saying that when I was up and about I should drop into him and “he’d sort me out”. I’m back in work today and will have the stitches out next week. I just want my medical expenses covered (about €200) a new shirt (the one I had on was my best one and worth about €150) and my bike cost €20 to have checked out. Anything over that is a bonus AFAIC. If he doesn’t cover that then I’ll talk to a solicitor. Loads of people today have said that I’m mad not to start a claim going. I would get a few grand blah blah blah. For fuck sake. What is it with people and wanting to screw others for money at the drop of a hat. Yes the guy made a stupid mistake and it could have been a lot worse but so far he’s done nothing to warrent me going to legal war with him. I wish people would stop calling me stupid for not wanting to fuck him. ---

Shit man, I had no idea. That’s awful. Hope you’re feeling better and back up on two wheels soon. Any shock? Did you ever meet that twat Ed who I worked with? “You should always hold your neck just after any accident - they can’t prove whiplash one way or another so it’s a guaranteed 800 quid!” It’s arseholes like him who bring premiums up and fuck things up for everyone else. As a constant cyclist I know it’s only a matter of time before something similar happens to me… Fingers crossed it won’t. ---

Just sent you a pic of me in the waiting room. I was patched up on the roadside by a guy with a first aid kit so not too much blood. Looked kinda cool though as it looked like I was shot in the shoulder and people were giving me a wide berth in the hospital 😃 ---

Sounds like a small matter, so finding a solicitor on it may be difficult. If you can get reasonable compensation without a solicitor or a court proceeding, then have at it. You may want a written agreement to go with whatever payment happens. You might consider legal action if you can’t get reasonable compensation otherwise or if the statute of limitation is about to expire. ---

The shirt was one I bought when i was a best man at a wedding. Not a normal shirt for me. I actually mentioned the shirt after the accident to him. Said it was my only really good one. ---

While that it true, it’s still absurd what some people wind up receiving for intangible damages. I’ll concede that it’s possible to do it quantitatively, but fairly is another story. ---

What does the shop sell? Maybe you can get some freebies as well as money. Flatscreen TVs? Games? Antiques? Is it a sex shop? Prosthetics? Even if it’s a newsagent you could get some smokes. ---
