Oh, dewt.
I don’t know what to say. My heart hurts for you, your family, and those poor animals. The whole thing is so sickening.
Keep us up to date, ok? Let us know if there’s anything we can do…? (going off to check the link…)

Hey, no problem. I get really pissed off when i see people completely missing the point. Funny how nobody was up in arms and putting up memorial websites (complete with bad midi…ugh!) when those poor animals were being neglected.
I’m behind you 100%, Dewt.

The disease that dewt mentioned, leptopirosis(sp?), is an easy preventable disease if the pet is given the appropiate vaccines. If they were not planning on killing the animals, why didn’t they give the poor animals their vaccines??? Vaccines are much less expensive than treatment. Also, the description that dewt gave of the place, is enough in some places to accuse the people in charge with animal abuse, and call the health authorities. I know because there are people here that have lots of pets in a small area, and sanitation has come and take the pets to a shelter, where I think they end up being killed because no one goes to adopt them.
Vaccines aren’t 100 percent. There are several strains of lepto but the vaccines we currently administer to our pets only cover two of them. At my hospital we are treating a wonderfully cared for dog that unfortunately contracted this terrible disease despite being vaccinated. We had to put her “brother” down the other day because he was so far gone. We may have to put the female down soon too.
Dewt - Just got back from vacation to read your accounting of horrors. I have worked in both kill and no kill shelters in my time as well as any number of kennels and zoos. That may be the single worst story I have ever heard.
I wish I could run a kill optional shelter. In my ideal situation the (presumably competent and responsible) people in charge would have the option to destroy animals if they believed they were unadoptable. Our shelter is a beautiful, humane no kill. I realize the only reason for this is an $8 mil donation ten years ago.
It is just as stupid to kill any animal after a set period of days as it is to keep an animal for life in a cage. When I was at shelters that put down animals they invariably made no exceptions for some lovely animals that just hadn’t been found by the right family yet. Our no-kill shelter knows damn well there are about five or six dogs that have been psychologically damaged beyond repair. Rather than put them out of their misery they sit day in and out in a cage.
I hope you prevail in doing the right thing for these animals.
Aw, man. I’m almost in tears here.
My boys, Flash and Two-Tone, are definitely sleeping on the bed with me tonight. They’re both Humane Society rescues, and I couldn’t ask for better dogs.
Excuse me. I think I need to go hug 'em now.
Hi all, me again…
Thanks again for your replies and concern. As you can imagine, everything here has been very chaotic and though I’ve checked the boards (which seem very quick now) I haven’t had much of a chance to reply.
Anyway… quick update. I’ve gotten my hands on the spca report. I’ve got it posted at Delphi.
here’s the link

feel free to come and check it out. Please, keep in mind that for security reasons, I’m dealing with the Miaouf thing anonymously.
Dewt, Have you and Dylan been to the doctor yet ? I am really concerned about the two of you !
