Why is that? Not a vBulletin® feature? Nobody here has thought of it before? Dopers prefer a well-explained post concisely defining which parts of an earlier post are deemed particularly meritorious, unusually clever, or just generally acknowledgement-worthy, visual clutter and increased likelihood of thread drift be damned? All of the above are considered validations, and as such are met with sneering disdain and open mockery 'round theseparts? ---

We prefer to encourage actual discussion, thought, and interaction, rather than an empty gesture that is the opposite of all of those things. It’s the forum equivalent of pinning a ribbon to your shirt for [whatever] cause; it may feel like “doing something” to you, but you haven’t actually helped anyone with anything. ---

I don’t like to argue with a coach, but…yeah, something wrong with that. An entire post vs. a discreet little marker off to the side of the liked post. Look, I don’t mean to boardshit or anything, but 1) some folks like microvalidations, 2) an entire post, or good heavens half a dozen equating to thunderous applause from the gallery, is a thread drifting distraction, 3) the search function didn’t turn anything up so I was basically coerced by this very board to make this post. Society is to blame. The other responses are noted. I need to not be such a big ol puss. I’ll get to work on that just as soon as I figure out how to turn off my default signature… wink smiley ---

I’d prefer a “Dislike” button. Imagine what the threat of attracting a few dozen “dislikes” would do for post quality. ---
