OK, for those of you who missed **Dorothy’s** post near the end of last week’s MMP, [here’s the link.](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=7259492&postcount=304) It’s surreal.

Great OP, **rosie**. Sounds like it was a fun time. As others have said, you win the MMP Sweet Adelines Award!

Perhaps you’ve heard this before, **rigs** ; I’m jealous. Next time, we all go. We’ll be waiting impatiently for pics, of course.

Sorry about your friend, **Taters**.

I’ve read the whole MMP, you may now regale us with your wedding horror stories, **Lissla**.

Hope you’re getting all better, **FCM**. Here, have some soup.

Speaking of soup, I should go have some. Sounds like a yummy thing to have for dinner.

My weekend sped by rapidly: all-day garden thing on Saturday (lectures - with pictures! - vendors - lots of friends in attendance - food), then church garden committee yesterday and dinner at friends’. Made it through Monday at work. Need to make a list of stuff I’ve gotta do this week, both home and work.

Off to find food.

the last all nighter I pulled was in 1981 at a Mensa conference in Pittsburgh. We started a game of Risk aarpund 1:am, and when it was over at 5:am, we went to Denny’s for coffee and food. My flight was at 1pm that afternoon, so I didn’t sleep til I was home around 4pm.
the last study/work related all nighter was as a junior in college, with a term paper due the same day as the final (which I dozed off in twice).

I gotta know. Did Toto survive? Did the old bat on the bicycle like the porn store, and stock up on battery operated boyfriends? Did the porn store land on anyone’s sister?

It’s almost incestuous ain’t it! 😃

The first computer I ever touched was in 1985. Used big ol’ floppy disks. I remember there being a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig chart on the wall with all the commands to use. I thought I was hot stuff learning all that stuff. I still don’t know how the dang things work. All I know is I turn it on, click on stuff and there’s this great big world out there at my fingertips. ACBG, being somewhat of a Luddite, does not see the fascination at all. He has a home computer which he rarely turns on. He says he gets enough of it at work. Me, I think it’s the greatest thing since store bought bread already sliced up!

I have a dental appointment in the morning. Then I get to go sit in on an Og only know how long staffing. I’m not sure what will be worse. :dubious:

I didn’t see any notes, and I’ve been there twice! Gah.
No ravens this time–they are in quaratine. But still, the kids loved it all–even the crown jewels. Sir Walter Raleigh was not as much to the fore as the last time I was there (12 years ago)–thank goodness.

And I still say that Richard the III is innocent. Some guy pushed the Richard III button like 5 times\*, so I (of course) went over and pushed the Henry VII button 6 times and glared at the old coot. I think I made my point. He muttered under his breath a bit but left with his better half… 😉

\*unlike 12 years ago, you can now vote electronically on who killed the two princes in the Tower. Great fun. Also enjoyed the film on Guy Fawkes and the Catholic Rebellion.

My only undergrad all-nighter was spent in the Computer Science building. Can’t remember why. It, too, was in the punch-card era. (I am **not** old!!!) Vague memory of having to re-punch some of my cards because my program didn’t run right. We had to wait for our programs to be re-run every time; I think that’s why it took so long. It was the end of the quarter. I almost fainted the next day due to exhaustion. Apparently, I was a wimp.

In grad school, I was in several plays. The cast party was always an all-nighter. We played games and sang and told jokes and then went out to breakfast. But then I could go home and take a nap.

I pulled an almost-24-hour shift a bit over a year ago finishing up a major document. I worked at home and I think I slept about an hour in there somewhere. You can tell which sections I worked on last; they still need to be revised.

That was more than you wanted to know, right?

Stuff I forgot earlier: sorry the 3:00 thing didn’t work out, **susan**. Need us to bop someone upside the head? We’re good at that. (And respected worldwide for it, too!)

Welcome back, **rigsy**. We missed you!

I’ve been to England once, for a weekend, to visit my cousin who lived somewhere near Peterborough. We did an ultraquick tour of London (from the upstairs of a double-decker bus, IIRC), but I was really tired cuz I couldn’t sleep on the ferry. (This was more than 25 years ago.) We also visited Cambridge one day. Can’t remember what else. Fun, but way too short.

Had soup. Sadly, it was subpar. It was a canned tortilla chicken soup. I should know better than to buy exotic soups. They almost never work out.

So now I’ve recovered by eating some Ritz crackers. I should probably have some veggies. But I don’t feel like them right now.

Guess I should go sort laundry or something.

The whole weekend can be encapsulated in two little episodes. At an after-the-wedding brunch (which Mr. Lissar and I failed to attend due to no automatic time-changer on his watch and being really tired) my step-mother-in-law happened on one of the groomsmen. He’s about nineteen, and, how shall I put this… a goon. Anyway, he’s sitting on the floor, _wrapping a toe in duct tape_. She says, “Is something wrong with your foot?”

“Yeah, my toe’s been infected for two years. I was puttin’ polysporin on it, but I switched to rubbing alcohol.”

“Shouldn’t you see a doctor about that?”

“Coach says it’ll be all right.”

“You know, that kind of thing can give you gangrene, and they’ll have to cut your leg off.”

Shrug. “Yeah, I know.”

The other bit was when, at the same brunch, one of the bridesmaids (the fifteen year old)stumbled in, very hungover, moaned, flopped in the middle of the livingroom floor (in the middle of a room crowded with company), and pulled a blanket over her. Her grandmother told her that she could go to the bedroom and lie down. Her mom said, “No, she can just lie down under the tv in the corner.”
There was a lot of country music. They played, “It’s Okay to be a Redneck”. No one really talked to any of our side of the family, even though they were ostensibly the hosts.

On the up side, I got to hang out with both sides of Mr. Lissar’s family. I love them. They’re awesome. Also on the up side, Mr. Lissar’s brother is very happy. That is good. Also, I’m sure the bride’s side are right now talking about stupid snooty stuck-up cityfolk who use long words to sound smart and do fancy dancing.

We’re going to need a few weeks to recover.

Huzzah! I actually spent the whole night in my own bed - no recliner for me! I did wake up a couple of times coughing, but I’d left a glass of water on my nightstand, so I’d have a sip, then lie down and crash again. Yay!

**loune** - Old? You uppity young 'un! I’m one of the wise elders (OK, and occasional wiseass) and you’d do well to remember that!

And speaking of paper tape - when I used to work in my dad’s office in the summers (early 70s) I used to print out brokerage bills using the Flexowriter (or maybe that was a generic name, because the ones I’ve found on line don’t look like the beast I used.) This was when minimum wage was $1.75 and we were happy to get it - HAPPY I tell ya!

And that’s all I’ve got for now. Happy Tuesday, all!

Off to work.

Just FYI, although it had nothing to do with computers, my first job was a Carry Out girl in a local pizza place–I made $1.91/hr-no tips. This was 1978.

My first job was slingin’ burgers at a Hardee’s (what some of you call Carl Jr.'s). This was in 1970 and it was a brand new Hardee’s! One of three fast food joints in my home town at the time. I made up a jingle, borrowing the tune from the oooooooooooooooold BK commercials of the time:

You get pickles!
You get lettuce!
Special orders _do_ upset us!
We don’t care what you want!
You’ll get it **our** way!

I was a brilliant wit even at the tender age of 16! 😃

I don’t know about other SA’s but it was a natural for my sis - her first name started with an L and had 4 letters (and of course Lida Rose from The Music Man was written/sung in barbershop style)

That accurately describes the only Hardee’s experience I’ve ever had. Except you left out the part where the lady with no front teeth kept giving my cousin the eye.

**Dorothy** , it was the first time I’d seen _Rent_ on stage–I saw the movie, of course. The show is a million times better, but that’s to be expected. And we saw in the Playbill that there’s a revival of _Sweeney Todd_ going on, so we’re looking for tickets to that as I speak–er, type.

Must get to work now, since I’m leaving early. _sigh_ Hate work.
