What on earth was Lucas’ reasoning there?
So that no one could give away the ending prematurely? Or “You’re really Obi-wan’s bastard child?” :dubious:
Yeah, I know. My point was that that line told us there had been something called the Clone Wars in the past, which meant there were clones, which meant Vader was probably a clone of Luke’s dad.
I’m glad to see from this thread that we weren’t alone in that conclusion.
Or, just maybe, Lucas himself was unsure at that point which direction the series would take. Considering all the creepy inconsistencies that emerged later, this is far from impossible.
Sorry if someone else posted this above:
A friend of mine though Luke was DV’s clone. At the time (just after ESB was released) , I thought it was in interesting theory.

I totally bought it. Vader was about the right age, and you can see the strong family resemblance.
Maybe Jar Jar is Luke’s real father. Think about that.
So how would you phrase this?
“Your father Anakin Skywalker went apeshit crazy on the darkside, a common risk of being a jedi(maybe the force is mentally unsettling?) and killed billions of people including small children and your mother who he choked with the force until her trachea broke or something. Then I had a sword fight with him and chopped off his limbs and left him for dead on the edge of a lava flow hoping he’d burn to death in agony. So Luke wanna become a jedi and travel with me?”
