> Well I know, bless em, they are annoyingly slow, but look at it this way for a sec: try getting thru a day wearing Vaseline schmeared on your glasses, wearing 30# weights around your legs, wearing heavy rubber workgloves … thats what it must be like being Of a Certain Age. The body does not cooperate fully with what the brain is trying to tell it to do I imagine. Damn Ageing to Bloody Hell!

Bless me … 😛 I know my body’s issues, and knowing that my health sucks donkey dick I plan any shopping runs to take a minimum of time in any given store. If I am after something, I go directly to it, get it and into the line and out. If I have coupons for anything I have them in hand. being vertical _hurts_ and I want to get home and horizontal to recuperate as fast as possible. We figured once recently that for every hour vertical sitting in a car seat or wheelchair, or just at the desk on computer ends up taking about 45 minutes horizontal to recover.

> **SeaDragonTattoo** No words, just lots of virtual hugs. I’m so sorry. It never seems to get easier, does it? You gave him a good, long and happy life, try to be at peace knowing that he will be able to have a loving and painless passing. More hugs.

Thank you.

Unfortunately, after 72 hours on steroids, he didn’t rally, just would not eat. It was time. Went to see his vet (where I also work) one last time, she did the injection while I held him and he didn’t even twitch his tail. He was ready. I had a couple days to prepare and do the ugly crying at home, so I wasn’t too much of a mess leaving work where I might cause distress and dismay to volunteers/clients/coworkers. Still, I have some huge headache and my eyes have been leaking most of the night.

We bonded instantly when I adopted him at age 7. I brought him home on a sunny Saturday afternoon in 2002. He explored the apartment for about an hour. I laid down on the couch so as not to hover. He jumped up, curled up on my chest while the TV played whatever afternoon movie, and we napped. He’s been that close to me ever since.

He was my first cat. He’s seen five others come and two go before him. He was tolerant of all of them, so long as they knew their place and that I was “his.” He was always at my side. He always slept with me in the crook of my left arm, he wouldn’t settle in the bed until I assumed the correct position. He was always in the same room as me, even if asleep in the cat tree in one room, if I left for a few minutes he would wake up and come looking for me.

My sweet. My heart. My shadow. [Here’s a collage I made tonight.](https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/1425309_593693677332990_229470829_o.jpg) The bottom left picture was a very typical pose I found him in often. This photo captured perfectly the look on his face when he would just sit and stare at me for hours sometimes. It’s his “I love you” face. I would sometimes wake up to him just sitting there, on the floor, an end table, or the bed next to me, with that look on his face. ☹

**{{{SeaDragonTattoo}}}** I’m sorry for your loss–I had to put my little man down this summer, and I know how you feel. Even when you know it’s time and they’re silently thanking you for letting them go, it’s still so, so terrible.

I’m glad you still have some kitties still around though; no, they can’t take the place of your best boy, but a house with no cats at all is the saddest thing of all. So, so sorry for your loss. Dammit, so silly to sit here crying over someone else’s cat.

Our Clint - I have a box w/his ashes - had the same expression. He had the same tolerance, too: “New cat? Howdy! Just so’s you know, this is MY HOOMAN but otherwise we all cool” etc.

That’s a lovely collage. Proves why it’s important to get _good_ photos of your pet while s/he is young and healthy. My sister had a dog hit by a car once, and what really broke her heart was that she had no photos of him. (Well, one of her son, with Bernie lurking in the background, not even fully in frame.) Since then, she’s always had portraits of her dogs: one shot of the dog alone, one of the dog and her.

Godspeed, Noodle.

Agreement on the pictures thing. I took pics of Maggie on the very first day, and continue to do so. (and am reminded now I should take another this weekend) Years ago when I lost Coffee (age 4 months) to that Chinese poison crap, I regretfully learned that I only had two pictures of him, both taken the same day shortly after I got him.

I got on the bus. The bus was already a few minutes late. When the bus got to the stop a few stops later, the bus driver stopped the bus, went into Tim Horton’s, and spent a full five minutes getting a coffee and a sandwich. He then drove the bus slowly and erratically because he was driving with only one hand while holding the sandwich in the other hand. I was late in getting home.
When I got home, I reported his ass.

Hey, I know we all slow down with age. I understand old Uncle Joe movin’ kind of slow at Petticoat Junction. What I’m fussing about is this part:

> [@SpazCat](#):
>
> I would love, just _love_, to go to a craft store, pick out my small purchases, go to the register, pay for them, and leave in a timely manner. I cannot do this thanks to Women of a Certain Age who turn into molasses on a winter day in Wisconsin around at the register. I get stuck behind them at Michael’s. I get stuck behind them at AC Moore, and today I got stuck behind them at Jo-Ann’s. A **t Michael’s and AC Moore I get stuck behind the women buying out half the store who have the gift of picking every single thing that has neither a price tag nor a UPC code on it.** At Jo-Ann’s today I got stuck behind a woman returning some yarn (no problem with her)\*\* and some other woman futzing around on her cell phone for the gods only know what reason while the poor cashier stood there.\*\* I think Cell Phone chick was looking for a coupon or something and had to take fifteen years to find it.

It’s the cell phone thing that really ticks me off. Either have your e-coupon ready at the register or give up on saving that 50 cents this trip. There is nothing more annoying than having to wait behind that person flicking the screen on their cell phone through 1500 screens to find that one thing. This is why I won’t get a smartphone. That and I don’t want to pay for the data plan.

I certainly would have reported erratic driving and disregard for schedule that his passengers were counting on him being somewhere near keeping.

One morning, I missed a train because the bus driver dawdled along, even slowing down for GREEN lights, then took a slower route into the bus station so those of us needing that train could see it pull out as we arrived. Yeah, I filed a complaint on that nonsense.

Sorry to continue the sad kitty topic…

Sassy died today. My wife just called to let me know. Sassy was old and has been growing weaker over the past months. She wasn’t suffering as far as we could tell, so we didn’t want to take her to the vet to have her put to sleep because she was always so afraid of everything and we didn’t want her last minutes to be of terror.

She fell asleep and didn’t wake up.

I asked my nephew to dig a hole in the yard so we can bury her when I get home.

Here is a happy picture of her:

{{ • }} Here’s a general hug for anyone here who’s lost a four-footed family member.

So sorry, **minor7**. She looks quite a bit like my Nikki in that snapshot: a tuxedo cat if the printer was low on toner, and apparently one who likes to roll onto her back. Take comfort in the fact that you didn’t terrorize her final moments of life. Dying in your sleep is a good way to go, and that goes double (or triple?) for cats, who … ah … seem quite fond of snoozing.

- joins in the general rant about folks in front of you in line not having their coupons, e- or otherwise, ready to go \*

Our puppy barked all night last night.

The first time I let her out and she did that fake pee attempt where she squats for a second and then turns around looking for a treat (before heading inside again).

The next couple of times I told her stop (and she did for a minutes). The last time I let her bark for what felt like an hour before telling her to shut up (which she did).

Mom thinks the coyotes were setting her off (the ones we that she wanted to play with when they showed up after our walk). I only heard them once.
