The Criterion DVD of Seven Samurai includes an original theatrical trailer. It starts out with a scene from the end of the movie (four samurai graves) and then proceeds to recap with narration the entire film. At the end of the trailer, titles come up that say “Death? or Victory?”… even though they just gave away the answer. So if anyone out there hasn’t seen it yet… don’t watch the trailer first. ---

Thank you mods for making an appropriate thread title change. I would have asked for the change yesterday if **Otto** hadn’t taxed my mind with irony. I stopped reading his post the first run through after the words “Can’t think of any trailers…”. 🙂 OK, got my quicktime to work **Bryan**. I had friggin’ goosebumps, thanks a lot for that link. You’d think that would earn him a movie offer… New sexiest Cat Woman ever. Maybe less really is more. ---

Mikio Naruse, I’d understand. Ditto Ousmane Sembene. Heck, I might even have a moment of leniency and understand Victor Sjostrom, Jean Grémillon, Dusan Makavejev, Dorothy Arzner, Theo Angelopoulos, or Hou Hsiao-hsien. But Harold Lloyd?!?!? That’d be like saying that I’ve been a reporter for ESPN for 3 decades but never actually watched a single Philadelphia Phillies game. Ever. Not once. Not even when they were in the World Series. Unbelievable. Oh, and yeah, most old trailers are pretty bad. ---
