Not to hijack the thread, but why DO foghorns make that BEEEEEEEEEE-OOOOOHHHHH sound? That interval is a fifth, right? (I know that sounds like a set-up for a joke, but I’m serious! My ignorance must be fought!)

Yeah, the Golden Gate Bridge one is a notable diaphanous horn - two tones, very frequently.
I used to live within hearing range of the Pt. Bonita, Diablo Point, and Golden Gate Bridge foghorns. Summer nights with fog were terrible because all three just kept on blowing. ![]()
