I’m bloody sick of ‘-gate’ being attached to every political scandal. The reason the Watergate Scandal had a ‘-gate’ in it was because the hotel was called The Water_gate_. But then we had ‘Koreagate’. Oh, how _clever!_ Okay, it might have been ‘clever’ the first time; but -‘gate’ is entirely overused. ‘Contragate’? I’ve never heard of The Contragate Hotel. Gate, gate, gate, gate, _gate!_ It bugs me. It’s been three decades since the Watergate investigation, and even today we have [‘Coingate’](http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050529/NEWS24/505290441). :rolleyes: Come on, Newsies; _be original!_ ---

I was surprised nobody called the Whitewater thing ‘Whitewatergate’. If anything lent itself to that suffix, this did. ---

I’m with you. It’s just silly by now. They made fun of it nicely on the Daily Show a couple days ago. Steven Colbert was talking about how Watergate was the scandal that made the ‘-gate’ suffix really take off, and how there was Teapot Domegate and Slaverygate… … Well, it was funnier when they were doing it. ---
