John: Um, Stephen. Watergate was the first scandal to utilize the suffix ‘gate’, as it was named after the Watergate Hotel.
Stephen: Not so much. See there was Teapot Dome Gate ((insert other historical gates)) and of course we cannot forget- slavery gate.

Several years ago, there was a talk show host on a local tv station in Charleston. His last name was Waters. He got caught in some scandal involving the city council, something about attemping to bribe people to get a certain someone elected.
The bright folks at the other tv stations started calling it “Watersgate.” Thanks, guys, quite a leap you made there. :rolleyes:
