Thanks, guys. T minus 22 hours til surgery & he seems happy enough. Right now he’s playing PS2 one-handed. _sigh_ He’s still happy & bubbly…and blowing up stormtroopers on ‘Lego Star Wars’: “Daddy? See this guy? This guy’s a pig and it looks like he plays guitar, but its really an axe he swings to kill people.” “Like Jack Black?” “…yeah.” Both hospital & surgeon are ‘in network’, I’m taking unpaid time to watch him today & be there for him at the hospital tomorrow, and Monday he’ll be fit for school. My Boss is cranky about it, but my wife is the one who super tried to please her bosses. Mon-Wed, she watched him / tele-commuted until I got home, and then she’d drive to her job & work til 2AM. (She’s getting breakfast in bed on Saturday) ---

My beautiful daughter will have a scar under her right eye for the rest of her life because she was jumping on the bed. ---

\*\*\* Update \*\*\* First, Thank You Everyone for your thoughts an best wishes. It was much appreciated. Surgery was a success. Still, when I first saw my son afterwards, he was awake and shrieking in pain. After clearing his IV twice, they finally got the pain medicine to start to go through. The charts had a little typo too: Doctor- …“How much does he weigh…?” Parents in Unison- …“He’s 47 pounds.” Nurse-…"… 47 Kilograms." Parents in Unison- …“No, 47 pounds.” Nurse-…“It says right there, 47 kilograms.” Parents in Unison-…“We’re his parents and we’re telling you: 47 pounds!” Nurse-…"…must be a mistake on the paperwork." :smack: Good thing anesthesia isn’t based on weight, thinks the father of the child screaming in pain in Recovery. But, he’s home now and asleep. Thanks Again, One and All!!! ---

Good news on the surgery. Your nurse sounds scary though. I guess she doesn’t know weights very well. ---

If I got my metric right isn’t 47 kilos equivalent to over 100 lbs? Was the nurse blind? That’s kind of scary. ---

Hopefully the nurse just had a brain fart and isn’t a total moron. My tiny mother-in-law is probably about 50 kg. Sending sympathy for the little guy. 🙂 It’s awful for him now, but if it’s any comfort to you, I’m pretty sure this will all just be a great story for him to tell in a few years. I had a nasty sprain when I was little, and I was pretty miserable at the time, but now it’s just a funny story about the time I slipped in the water from the toilet overflowing and almost broke my ankle. My cousin broke her elbow when she was 3, from jumping off of the couch deliberately and landing sideways on her arm. When asked later why she jumped off–and didn’t even try to land on her feet–she said she was pretending the blue carpet was a swimming pool. _sigh_ Poor little thing was miserable with the cast on, and after she healed she refused to jump on bouncy furniture, and would fuss at other kids to stop it. So something good came out of it–it’s really funny watching a 3 year old sternly telling her 5 year old sister to stop jumping on the bed because she could break her arm. She’s a teenager now and laughs about it. ---

You’re supposed to put extreme emphasis on “Mama called the doctor and the doctor said, ‘That’s what you get for jumpin’ on the bed!’” part of the song, you know. Otherwise the kid doesn’t get the POINT of the whole exercise… ---
