I knew a girl named _Gay_ as well. She’s a beautician/stylist in town. I liked her til I figured out it was her who gave every Mom w/kids in my kids school the u-g-l-y _karen_ hair style. Hey, Max…hair has the word _air_ in it. ---

Oh, noes. Max came to me a bit ago. The kids were saying what parts of their names are _other_ words. She was _ax_, her sister was _ex_. (Yeah, I told her that wasn’t a whole word). The boys different things. Big discussion over Lego play, it seems. She sez “Nana, human has _man_, are wimmens a man or not humans?” Oh, lord how do I explain this to this kid? I don’t think I have an answer she’ll grasp, other than some person called _people_ certain words and it stuck. And, yes woman are human. I told her go ask her Daddy. He’s quick witted. He’ll come up something. 😳 We’re soon gonna be down the etymology rabbit hole. I just know it. ---

Get these kids a couple of puzzle books with “word finder” games. The words that go diagonally are the hardest to find. And make up one of your own, type it up on the computer and print out the page, one for each kid. Make the list of words they look for the names of everybody in the family . But put one change in each puzzle page, so that the kid’s own name appears prominently. (Just be careful to give the right page to the right kid…ya don’t want to make one of 'em cry.) ---

The oldest ones are playing adult Scrabble. I play with them sometimes. I never lose. I don’t grant any favors cause they are young. It builds character to lose to your Nana. They learn words. I get asked all the time, What does that word mean? Ive seen the signs before. They are working up to challenges. I can’t wait. Yeah, words are a big part of the life we live. I do 3 crosswords everyday. I listen to them read. It stands to reason Max would question words. ---

I was actually taught that man was sometimes neutral (when referring to the race, as in mankind, human) and that the name “woman” refers to how woman was first created from man (Genesis 2:23 “And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man”). Or, at least in Hebrew with _ish_ and _ishah_. In English I think it comes from wife+man → wiman → woman. ~Max ---
