Oh, and thanks all you **G’Dopers** for vouching for my bona-fides etc. T’was a bit of a shock to open the site this morning to find some posters baying for my blood, so to speak. It was reassuring to see some familiar ‘faces’ to lighten up what had become a bit of a mud-sling! I’ll be a damn sight more careful next time before posting something in IMHO…should’a taken it to the Pit first-off I guess. And to YOU, **woolly** , a very large and very loud raspberry. 😛 It’s a lovely morning down here in Mexico…although I am Most Pissed Off that ‘The Age’ has decided to raise it’s price to $2…Two Bloody Dollars for a newspaper fer’ chrissakes? And most of it goes straight into the recycling bin straight away anyway…Bloody Fairfax…bloody snotty-nosed newspapers…bloody hell. Rant over, but the raspberry remains 😃 ---

I’d love to live in many different countries–I won’t list them all. Sadly, I don’t have that kind of cash or job, but I think I’m really really lucky to live in such a great place as I do. One of the best towns in California, IMO. We intend to live here forever, if possible (with the odd year abroad here and there, if that can be managed). America ain’t perfect, but I’ve never seen anyplace that was. Kam, I don’t care if you don’t want to live here, but if you ever want to sleep on my floor and see the greatness of Northern California and discover how human Americans are, you’re welcome to. 🙂 ---

woolly, maaaaaaaate, you don’t wanna do that now! Anywhere but Auckland! I’m a Kiwi living in Brisbane (Mr P got his Aussie citizenship the other week ). On the balance of it, if I had $, I’d prefer to live in NZ but Australia is a much easier place to earn a living for us than NZ. Culturally I find Australia to be much closer to the US than NZ is. ---

I don’t think the OP is offensive, but now that it’s been explained, I think it’s awfully naive to think that this perceived monolithic “whatever” about the US is going to cause greater difficulty for an Australian than differences one would encounter living in South America or Asia. I’m not OFFENDED that you think you wouldn’t like to live here, but I can’t help but think that you must have an awfully skewed view of what this country is like. ---

Well, **samclem** , we don’t have shrimp in Australia we have prawns. And Sydney isn’t a state. I’ve only lived in Perth, Australia and Matsuyama, Japan. I couldn’t live in Sydney or Melbourne, even though they are the same Australia. Been there for a holiday and didn’t want to stay. So while I have in the past had similar thoughts to **kambuckta** re:USA, I can understand what you are all saying about each state/city being very different. Japan is a cool place to live…different culture and all, but still has the comforts of home. And cushy toilets! But I couldn’t live anywhere which isn’t near family. When in Perth, we are near my family. When in Japan, we live in the same town as Mr’s family. That suits us just fine. ---

As one of the Pogo cartoon characters once said “I challenge you to a life time of bitter hatred!” I’d rate American beer right after Germany. But not the junk made with seaweed we export to countries controlled by Madison Avenue. Our microbreweries are turning out some superb beer. (Other countries may also be doing this, but I haven’t had a chance to taste them.) My favorite beer is one from Switzerland, but generally we’re brewing some great stuff. My city has a local brewery that turns out a couple types you could just put in a bucket, stick your head in, and inhale. Yummy! ---

**kambuckta** , with all due respect I think the posts against you were people looking for an explanation for your rather adamant but vague OP. With one glaring and idiotic exception I have seen no mudslinging, no baying for your blood, and no ‘How Dare You Not Love the US’ sentiment. Don’t go courting trouble when there’s none to be had. Me, I would live in Ireland, England or Canada, in that order. I’m not much for experimentation, I guess. ---

Budweiser _is_ marginally better, and Budweiser is crap. This is why nobody drinks Foster’s down here. It’s almost purely an export beer. Honestly, Aussie and US mainstream beers both tend to be pretty bloody average. Both countries have microbreweries putting out some good stuff though.
