No Riley Cooper thread?

What do you want him to do? Suspend him? He said he was happy with the way the team handled it, and it’s obvious the team hasn’t finished with its internal discipline process yet anyway.

Randy moss hits a traffic control officer with his car, knocking her to the ground.he was ordered to pay a $1,200 fine and perform 40 hours of community service. Marijuana was allegedly found in his vehicle as well, but charges were later dropped.adam pacman jones gets suspended Entire 2007 season for Attacking a stripper and threatening a security guard’s life and 4 other people with a GUN!!!. Da’Quan Bowers was arrested but did no jail time for having an illegal gun in his bag at a airport. He only got fined $375. Andre Smith also gets charged with having a loaded gun in his bag no jail time and doesn’t get suspended. Donte stallworth did 24 days in jail for a DUI manslaughter that killed a construction worker oh but he did donate $2,500 to the mothers against drunk driving fund so that was nice. That’s just to name a few. riley cooper on the other hand said the n word, it’s all over the news and the whole world is coming down on him.and probably will be suspended for an entire season. Yeah that sounds right…

I think you would lose your mind if you heard the things that players say to each other on the field.

Not a chance.

I think since we’re taught from earliest childhood to never ever say the evil magic word pretty much guarantees the word is right there all the time waiting for a chance to jump out. It’s like Austin Powers trying not to say “mole” when the guy with the huge mole was around. Mole mole mole mole mole!

As for Cooper, I don’t know. What was the context? The video I watched has him saying “I’ll jump that fence and fight every nigger here.” I’d really like to know what the conversation right before that was.

First, he could stop pretending like his hands are tied, blaming the collective bargaining agreement. He claimed once the team punishes a player, he can no longer do so. That’s complete horseshit, and I guarantee if the Saints had acted unilaterally by only fining Payton last year, the league would have stepped in.

Second, he could publicize the amount Cooper was fined, not only to set a precedent, but also to allow the public to understand the severity of the punishment.

Now, I don’t know if Cooper should be suspended, but I think Goodell needs to stop acting like a hardass only when it suits him. He suspends and fines people just for being arrested rather than convicted. Yet, whenever a controversial issue on race or sexual orientation comes up, he becomes this milquetoasty guy who seeks to downplay the situation. Whether it’s commenting on the Redskins name, or not fining people who use homophobic and racist language, he seems to have decided that such thinks are less problematic than being arrested for a DUI. There is something to be said for him coming out and acting swiftly in this case not only because Cooper essentially threatened to fight a security guard while denigrating him and others with racial slurs, but also because the league he leads is 70% Black. There is no worse way to reinforce the notion that he and the owners don’t care about the players than to take a hands off approach on an issue like this.

As one columnist I read pointed out, it works against Cooper that the team has a new head coach who is completely unproven at the NFL level. A practiced old hand might be more inclined to keep Cooper around and weather the storm. Chip Kelly may decide he just doesn’t need this shit and cut the problem loose.

That only works against Cooper because he’s not that good. If this were a guy like McCoy, there is no way he would get cut, new coach or not. In fact, Cooper would have probably already been cut if Maclin were still healthy. Very few coaches have the luxury to weather ANY storm that might cost them wins or affect team morale. After Bellichick, Payton, and a small group of others, they are ALL expendable.

I read one story where ESPN said people around the Eagles camp were grumbling that Andy Reid wouldn’t have fined Cooper and said it was done- he’d have cut him immediately.

Don’t you dare ignore/take the air out of his put upon white guy diatribe… he took a lot of work and a lot of googling to come up with those incidents. Riley Cooper will also be nailed to a cross and forced to negotiate the new Palestinian state…

Couldn’t be much less productive than current negotiations.
