For those who aren’t taking notes about me and mine and the details of our existence: I have a 16 y/o daughter, the Perfect Child[sup]TM[/sup] who is taking Choreography as an elective this year - she thought it would be fun. It appears this class, while under the cognizance of the Drama teacher, is actually being taught by students. And rather than teaching Choreography, it’s the older girls teaching dances to the class based on stuff they see on MTV and the like. My Perfect Child[sup]TM[/sup] came home from school complaining about the dance they’re doing this term. She said it was slutty. I asked for specifics, and all she mentioned was “body rolls” - whatever that is. She said she felt it was inappropriate for high school girls. She told the teacher that she was uncomfortable with it. He said she’d have to learn the dance in class, but she didn’t have to perform it. I was so proud of her when she told me about this. She took a situation that bothered her, addressed it with the proper person, and got a satisfactory resolution - just like an adult! Little warm fuzzies like this make me feel as if she’ll be ready to face the big, bad world when we toss her out after graduation… [sub]FTR - that was a joke - we are going to get her thru college before casting her to the wolves[/sub] I’m thinking I need to bring this to the principal’s attention - before she witnesses this at the performance and the potential doo-doo hits the fan… Seems to me this teacher may be acting irresponsibly. And lest you think my Perfect Child[sup]TM[/sup] is a prude, we were discussing foreplay after dinner last night. Anyway, my kid doesn’t want to dance like a slut. I’m so proud! 😃 ---

It’s what we call a “teaching moment” - like the time we heard someone on the radio talking about girls being virgins. I asked her if she knew what a virgin was (she was about 8 at the time) and since she “wasn’t sure” I explained it was a girl who hadn’t had sex yet. I’m so glad to hear this about your daughter, FCM. (I want to give you a nickname, but I can’t think of a good one. Should I call you Snickers, like Rue?) I personally am sick of slut dancing and slut clothes and my daughter is only 6! I have become the original Mama Prude, and order her clothes from Land’s End. I have combed the department stores. My daughter will not wear fur-trimmed leather coats, belly-haning out tube tops and low-slung, crotch-grabbin’ jeans. This has been my rant for several weeks now. She wears a uniform to school, so thankfully I don’t have to deal with this on a morning-in, morning-out basis. ---

Am I the only one here who is seriously icked out by the idea of a male drama teacher watching a bunch of 16-18 year old girls do MTV-esque dances? FCM, I do think you should mention it to the principal. It seems inappropriate for a public school class to be doing that kind of thing. Also, if the class was supposed to be choreography, and they are not learning choreography, you have a concrete complaint with whcih to open the discussion. ---

**Green Bean** , I’ve been composing the letter in my head… I need to drag myself away from these boards between now and Sunday night and get it written. There was no school today or I’d have done it last night. As for the teacher watching, my daughter says he’s not usually in the classroom - another thing I’m not to crazy about. Apparently he’s more interested in drama than dance. Anyway, Dr. Roberts shall hear from me on Monday. ---

It’s not like there are any _straight_ male dance instructors out there or anything.
