No Smoking Prison

I’ve seen people make alcohol in prison. I’ve never seen any prisoners trying to grow tobacco.

Yeah, I’ve attended to a few inmates with cases of “toilet hooch” poisoning. Metamucil is a favored ingredient in it, given its abundant sugar content.

I’ve also read of inmates dying of nicotine poisoning, by ingesting nicotine pest killer, hoping to get a buzz off of it.

I’m sure somewhere in the south, prisons once grew tobacco, and inmates cultivated their own personal plants…

'Course it’s shank or be shanked.

Oh…my…God

Yes, she does in fact look 83 in that photo.

The South might be the best area for growing tobacco, but you can cultivate it up North with some effort, too. My mom used to run a community garden in Cleveland, and one of her gardeners grew tobacco in his plot (she couldn’t find any laws against it, and I’m pretty sure she would have recognized if it were some other smokable plant). The bigger difference, I’m sure, would be that it’d be much harder to hide than alcohol: Tobacco plants are pretty bulky, and they’d have to be somewhere that gets sun, not hidden away in a toilet or under a bunk.

Are you [del]shaw[/del] sure?

Not questioning the legitimacy of the source of that photograph, but it seems more like 5 hours in Photoshop.

The following link shows some pictures of her at her recent hearing (July 6)
