Speaking of Conservapedia, there are far too many amazing examples to list, but I loved this paragraph under “Education”:
In 1971, at age 10, Barack Obama moved to Hawaii, and his grandparents helped him gain entrance to the prestigious Punahou Academy in Honolulu where he began substance abuse and illegal drugs.[34] He was accepted through a scholarship for disadvantaged minorities while he was in 5th grade.[29] At this elite high school with 1,200 students he was just 1 of 3 black students, and couldn’t make the starting lineup of the state champion basketball team his senior year. He wrote a poem for the school’s literary magazine, Ka Wai Ola.[30]
A black student who couldn’t make the starting lineup on a basketball team? What a loser!
This is just one example of the things that make me think that at least some of the posters there are actually covert liberals trying to make it look as ridiculous as possible.
Given that the hallmark of modern American Conservatism is yearning for a past that never existed and being incredibly angry with a reality that isn’t what they want it to be, it is utterly unsurprising when they attack things that fail to conform to that made up reality.
Personally, I’m an ultra-liberal. I think the best way to find out about the world is to apply the scientific method. Such techniques have provided us with computers, medicine and a sharply higher life expectancy. I know, I know: they are opposed by conservatives who veer towards post-rationality: I understand that. I opine that heat cause glaciers to melt: it isn’t a matter of emotions and feelings. Modern conserivatives disagree, as do folks who talk to themselves on the bus.
I was about to ask if it really was dangerous following the post you’re responding to.
As a child, I loved to eat apricot seeds. Munched them of course. I was told it was poisonous, even though I doubt my grand mother (who raised me) knew they contained cyanide. i would learn that much later.
Did I really barely escape death, or is that a bit exagerated? I’ve no clue how many seeds I was ingesting, but I would assume I can’t have eaten more than 10 in a day, you don’t eat that many apricots. So, was that actually a risk, or would you need to eat a massively larger quantity of apricot seeds for it to become a significant risk?
I think I just managed to get through to him. He posted a couple of right-wing memes that are floating around the net. I responded to each of them with a link showing that Snopes confirmed them. His response: “Okay. I give”.

Of course they’re going to confirm some rightie memes. Because if they didn’t that would be a dead giveaway of their liberal bias.
(Gosh, we can all argue like conservatives to make a point, but it’s kind of scary when you realize they mean it.)
