Let’s see: The kids both brought home good grades this year. My Crohn’s is under control. I have lost 16 pounds. And I am taking my big sister to Disneyworld with us in November! (She’s 38 and has never been.) ---

My wife got a huge, nasty virus on the computer today. She tried to “deal with it”, but, sorry honey, but that was like throwing gas on a fire. At the end, she was in tears, with “nothing” working. It sounded like a major clusterfuck. So why am I posting in _this_ thread? Because I literally backed up my hard drive yesterday, less than 24 hours before this happened, with the intention of wiping the hd free, re-doing the partitions, and installing Win7 this evening. All that happened was my schedule was moved up 6 hours. So valuable lessons were learned by all, with little damage actually done. ---

The shoes were falling apart after just on six months and, against all my experience and understanding, the kid told me that if she went _in uniform_ to the only local suppliers of that shoe, we’d get an exchange … and we did! No receipt no question and (on their advice) got a different brand and made up the exchange difference in chocolate. My kid is brilliant. ---

I think I need this thread. I’m intensely unhappy with my current employment situation (the ‘not so great pay or benefits but stable’ state job that was to be the position I retired in has turned to shit about 5 years too early.) So: I have two great kids, and my relationship with my wife is good and getting better, even if she has her own demons to slay. I’m spooling up for a third year running the cubscout pack, keeping it balanced because it’s not going to be another career for me, and I have some philosophical differences with the organization, but I can see it being important for the kids, and it’s worth doing. And I am a mechanical savant. really. I’m machining a bracket for the exhaust on a 1966 Cadillac because a replacement _can’t be bought_. Bought a new camera last month that was a real financial stretch, but made it a net-zero cost thing by selling the old camera and machining some motorcycle tools for some folks online. It’s already made some AMAZING photos and feels like the right thing to have done. Put 18,000 miles on a motorcycle over the last two years and am not dead yet. The home network is running like a swiss watch, most of it running in a virtual environment and all protected by enterprise-grade network security bits. Because that’s what I do for a living. Only I’m learning that the whole quiet self-deprecating ‘oh that? That was nothing.’ schtick really is incompatible with trying to land a job. And yet, how do you say you can do all this stuff and not come across as arrogant? (Sounds like fertile ground for another thread). I can protect a network, detect attacks, manage and tune an enterprise switch-fabric. I can forensically capture a computing asset and analyize it…and when data recovery is required, can even recover some of it sometimes. Though it’s not my _favorite_ thing to do, be a C level Information Security Officer, requiring crafting and interpreting security policy derived from Federal Standards that stand up well against federal auditor scrutiny. And I can screw up, letting Linked-in send requests to 164 of my closest friends. :smack: ---

I just got a new job. Same company but different position, moving from hourly to salary, getting a small pay bump and a bonus plan are in there. This is good. After three tries (and three failures), I _ **FINISHED** _ MY KNITTING PROJECT ! 😃 :eek: (Unfortunately?) It was a 3.75" square “Easy Knit Coaster” in el cheap-o cotton yarn. a tiny project but I’m VERY PROUD! _I’ve flunked knitting 101 multiple times …_ ☹ :smack: ---
