True. However, any comment on appearance (not aesthetics) has the potential to turn sexual at some point. And my point was that if we as a society wish to eliminate the sort of discomfort that women feel in such situations, we should simply stop making those references. And making similar comments about men in such situations simply becomes an excuse for others to say “why not about women when we do it regarding men?”.

So…if I’m reading this right, the post about the mustache did not, as you said, violate any rules. The other thing you commented about in that post was the Jr Modding and personal insults.
Sounds to me like the insults and Jr Modding should have been noted, but the original comment shouldn’t have been since, again as you said, it didn’t violate any rules.

If we’re going to note/warn people because they say something that doesn’t rise to the level where it violates board rules, we might as well change the rules.

Aww darn, really? Anyway, I admit that I couldn’t believe Leaffan’s team spirit was for real at first, but I’m pretty sure I have left him alone about the Leafs for the last 7 or so years. And yes, I did think it was hilarious that he’s now got moderators involved over a slight on the current Leafs team.

But is the proper societal response to stop all references to appearance, or to stamp down on the sexual comments?

In this particular instance, saying the player has a “pornstache” would probably fly, but trying to be witty, he made it about porn videos. I think avoiding the porn reference would be better. I don’t think the issue was hijacking so much as making sexualized comments. I think if Chronos had phrased it that way, it would have drawn less attention.
