51 Degrees in my part of New Jersey right now. It is not the 70s we were getting last week, but it is also not the 20s with snowstorms we were getting last year at this time, so I’ll take it.
This is something of an urban legend. Sunsets are actually caused by Rayleigh scattering that results from the longer path of light from the sun to your eyes when the sun is lower on the horizon. Pollution can affect the color at the margins, but only when the particles are consistent in size, which is usually from volcanoes or forest fires. Urban pollution tends to have larger, inconsistently-sized particles which result in merely dimming the overall colors of the sunset.
There are some beautiful paintings of sunsets from before the Industrial Revolution.
After a start in the low 40sF tomorrow, our temps here in central Ohio are forecast to be subfreezing (highs and lows) through at least next Saturday, with an expected low of 6F for the period.
For the Vikings game in Minneapolis tomorrow afternoon, it could be below zero, with a windchill of -22F.
:dubious:
Here in the tropics we’ve had an unusually warm Nov & Dec. Unusually wet too. NOAA is now advertising a cooler-than-normal and wetter-than-normal Jan & Feb.
All consistent with the AO & ENSO doing their thing on top of the already measured long term AGW.
