I’m going to stick my oar in and say that Christmas pudding (pud for short; am aware of the obscene meaning of that word stateside - but it’s pronounced differently) is NOT a cake. If you told someone you were serving them some cake and then served up the sticky ambrosia that is steamed dried fruit and beef fat doused with alcohol with only about a 10% flour content, they’d report you to the Cake Police.
