Huh. DogDad would. I think fully half the movies we own are either gory horror movies or REALLY crappy SF / monster flix.
One of his favorite DVDs is a double feature I got for six bucks: Attack Of The 18-foot Woman (or something like that) and Revenge Of The Gila Monster.

Or maybe the woman was getting revenge and the Gila Monster was 18 feet tall. I never can remember.

He’s still looking for Plan 9 on DVD. And several of the older gory ones because he wore out the tapes.

That’s one of my favorite things about Pixar films, the little “short animation specials”.

I don’t know if “they” still do it or not, (I haven’t seen any lately), but awhile back there was an annual “for the arts” type short film festival. These “shorts” remind me of some of the clever stuff that used to show up at those competitions.

VERY clever. The “birds on a wire” one from Monsters Inc. was hilarious.

I think this thread reveals that it’s usually better not to give reasons for why we might not be interested in something. Often, those reasons don’t, and can’t, make sense to anyone else.

I’ve found that “I can’t afford it” is an excellent excuse, and one that gets little argument. Of course, if the person wants to donate the money, I’ll do it. 🙂

Well, the thing is, in the OP, **Scarlett67** says she doesn’t want to see it. She then lists the reasons.

- Not having a kid (implying, no adult would want to go see a movie like this, unless their kids dragged them).
- Not thinking CGI is very interesting (Well, to some, that would be the point of going to see this movie. I Doubt that’s the only reason. A computer animated movie simply doesn’t have that novelty value anymore).
- Saying that plot, character development and acting is void in these movies (well, clearly it’s not. Som might feel that’s the case in Nemo, others won’t. But to dismiss animated movies on these grounds _is_ ignorant.)

So **Scarlett67** - you wanted to rant. Fine. But it seems to me that you wanted to rationalize your rant by giving what you thought are good reasons. IMO, they’re not. There just showing you to be ignorant of this whole genre. If you want to stay that way, that’s up to you. But I think enough people in this thread has called you on your opinions to at least show others that maybe adults can enjoy an animated feature.

And I’m 42, single, no kids. I love going to the theatre and I don’t mind seeing animated flicks.

I cried at the end when Nemo told his dad he loved him, and my friends teased me to no end for being such a damn sap. 😃

Where the FUCK did I say that adults can’t enjoy animated movies? Or that ALL animated movies are devoid of plot? (Are you familiar with the concept of SOME?) Or that CGI automatically brands a movie as crap? Hello – is this thing on? _tap tap tap_ I have said SEVERAL TIMES that others, including adults, are free to go and enjoy whatever movies they want to, and it’s no skin off my nose. Just don’t try to make me out to be some kind of soulless ignoramus just because I’m not running out to see the “feel-good movie of the year.”

You people just all seem to be grabbing on to one concept (not going to go out of my way to see a particular animated movie) and acting as though I’ve insulted your mother. OK, so being animated is no reason to automatically dismiss it. But neither is that a reason to automatically EMBRACE it. I gave SEVERAL reasons for not running right out to see it. And the main point of this thread was yes, to rant about my friends’ rudeness. Did I give reasons to rationalize my feelings? No. I gave them because they were part of the imaginary dialogue. They are my reasons, period.

You’re so intent on calling me ignorant. Well yes, OK FINE. Yes I am apparently ignorant about it. I am not intimately familiar with the animation industry. I am ignorant about a lot of things IN WHICH I HAVE NO INTEREST. That’s no excuse for you to be insulting. Are you all experts in things that don’t interest you? No? Then you’re ignorant too, only in some other area. Lots of them, probably. Just like little old ignorant me.

I don’t feel that anyone has “proven” my OPINIONS “wrong.” They are OPINIONS. All anyone has shown is that their OPINIONS differ from mine.

Imagine this conversation:
“I don’t like red. Red is an ugly color.”
“Oh, no, you’re wrong! Red is bright and cheery!! You should have lots of red things!”
“No, I just don’t like red. I prefer blue and green, and maybe purple sometimes.”
“Yeah, but purple has red in it! See, you really do like red, you’re just ignorant about it. Maybe if you go out and study color theory, you’ll see that you’re wrong and that red is really a great color.”

See how silly that is?

It kind of implies that unless you have kids, you wouldn’t even go to an animated movie, let alone enjoy it.

There were a few things in the OP that came across as if you believed only someone with kids and who didn’t care about a plot would go to see an animated movie. If you don’t like them, fine, but the statements you made implied that either only people with kids or people who don’t care about plot would go to see _Finding Nemo_.

It came across like you were characterizing the people who did like the movie.

This’d be a more compelling argument if you clearly didn’t know what your own opinions are. If you really want your friends to shut up about the movie, the easiest thing to do would be to _go see the movie_. It’s two measly hours out of your life, and who knows? You just might see something you really like. Maybe all your terribly annoying friends know something you don’t. Maybe they all saw this film and thought, “You know who would really enjoy this? **Scarlett67**! This is exactly her kind of movie!” We’re all very impressed by the Holy Sanctity of Your Opinion, but maybe you should listen to someone else’s opinion for a change.

Hmmm… So only people who have kids can appreciate them? Or learn which ones aren’t “quite as nauseating as others”?

Ignoramus indeed. There is a difference between an animated feature and a live action movie which has CGI parts. And as I mentioned before, being animated doesn’t equal devoid of plot.

Again, slowly and with patience - If you don’t want to see a movie, that’s not my problem. When you’re using a brush as the one you used in the OP, be prepared to be called on it. This started with a lot of people reasoning about why they liked the movie and why you shouldn’t dismiss them off hand. Now you’re comming off as a shrill bitch, SCREAMING, just becuase you’re called on your opinion.
Why _did_ you post the OP in the first place, and in the pit? Just so people would agree with you and you could feel smug about yourself?

That is, in fact, SO wrong. It is not ok, and I won’t allow it.

You are officially banned from seeing Finding Nemo because you don’t have the capacity to appreciate it.

- ya see, the thing is, The Godfather isn’t a mob movie, it’s a family saga/drama (except part 3 which was more in the category of “disappointment”). It just so happens that they’re in the mob. Your inability to get this disqualifies you from participation in good movies.

If you can’t see “finding nemo” for more than a cartoon, you don’t deserve to see it.

Fuck this. I didn’t go around calling people names and passing judgment on what they “deserve” to do because of what they like and don’t like, or are and are not interested in pursuing, but apparently I don’t deserve the same consideration. I did not use terms like ONLY or ALWAYS or NEVER, but others are apparently allowed to throw them around willy-nilly. And somehow my remarks regarding two specific people that I know have been interpreted as a massive insult against nearly everyone that wandered into this thread.

Tell you what. I’ll watch the movies I want to see, and YOU watch the movies YOU want to see. I won’t grill you about the reasons for your entertainment choices and then roast you when I don’t like the answers. I won’t order YOU around in your free time and tell you what you SHOULD like, and all I ask is that you extend me the same courtesy. Jesus.

Oh, and thanks to the few people who actually got my actual point and didn’t go off all half-cocked.

Scarlett, you yourself are begging for people to challenge you.

Saying things like you’re “not into mob movies” as your reason for not seeing The Godfather implies that all movies containing anything about the mob are the same.

This kind of craziness will cause people who know that you are wrong to try to explain to you that you are wrong.

So here’s a thought - instead of implying that all movies containing anything mafia related are the same, or all animated movies are the same, or all movies with a certain actor are the same, just say that you aren’t interested in seeing the movie and remain firm

Making sweeping generalizations, while certainly your right, will almost always cause people to refute those generalizations. If you really don’t want that to happen, then don’t make the generalizations.

I was never a fan of Pixar movies (and this gal works at the Disney Store part-time!) but I understand why the kids love Toy Story so much. However, _Finding Nemo_ is the first Pixar movie I have enjoyed but mainly because of Dory. She had me in stitches! Our entire region is sold out of Nemo and Dory toys. Have been for months.

Disney had trouble getting itself back on track with animated movies but I thought Lilo and Stitch was just fantastic.

I still love these animated flicks. My favourite is not a Disney flick but one by Dreamworks called **Spirit: Stallion of Cimmaron**. Absolutely adore that flick to death!

So happy to see so many others who share my love for splatter films and cheesy movies of yore, though my tastes lean a little more toward the exploitation side than sci-fi. Picked up **Switchblade Sisters** last night; one of my favourite movies ever.

_Any_way, yes indeed it can be annoying when someone tries to force something on you that they love that you’ve repeatedly told them you don’t, but you know, that just happens in life and if you get freakishly bent out of shape about it you’re going to die of a heart attack before you reach fifty! Did I vomit all of the colours of the rainbow when a former coworker forced her copy of **The Other Sister** on me, telling me she thought I would really love it and to tell her what I thought about it? I very much wanted to, but no I did not. I thanked her, went home, did not watch it, gave it back to her the next day and told her it was very nice. Did I break out into oozing hives when she later did the same thing with **Meet Joe Black**? No I did not, I watched the damn thing wanting to rip my eyes from my head throughout, alternating between screaming at the stupid stupid characters and gently weeping about the fact that three long hours from my life were gone and I would never ever get them back again. Then I returned the movie and told her it was nice.

Live with it. It will never stop. Take comfort in the fact that _you_ know you like good movies, and at least for now it’s still a free country and no, you don’t have to go see **Finding Nemo** if you don’t want to.
