Tourists flock to New York, California, Nevada (Las Vegas), Colorado (Skiing), Hawaii. Just about any city or town on the East coast that has access to the ocean, These picks are easy. IYHO, what State comes in at number 50 in tourist visits . Name a State that nobody visits, for whatever reason. Or, for good reason.

North Dakota.

There’s not really even any reason for the ‘anymore’.

Kansas, being as it’s only there to keep Colorado and Missouri from crashing into each other.

Or maybe Ohio. I once read some comment that said something like: “The reason you see so many Ohio licence plates on the road is that it’s so boring that two-thirds of the residents are out of state at any given time.”

I know that the Dakotas get no respect. I rememberd a flap when Rand McNally omitted those two states from one of their atlases. A web search found this:
[Rand-McNally World Atlas / Missing States](http://openweb.tvnews.vanderbilt.edu/1989-10/1989-10-06-NBC-16.html) with this synopsis:

> [@](#):
>
> NBC Evening News for Friday, Oct 06, 1989
> (Studio: Tom Brokaw) OK, North Dakota and South Dakota reported missing from new Rand-McNally “World Atlas”; details given, company spokesperson quoted.

But I can’t remember the exact details. It was also mentioned in my local newspaper (the Los Angeles Times) at the time.

Ah, but the thing about Ohio is that it’s boring in _so many different ways_. It’s a rich, diverse tapestry of meh, punctuated by the grim, the bleak, the tragicomic, and the just plain tragic.

And then there’s _Cleveland!_

I’m surprised at how popular Idaho is. Now I know of, second- or third- or fourth-hand, people who have been there. I guess the state really does exist.

Wyoming is my favorite tourist destination in the U.S. – and I live in California! I love the Tetons (currently on my screensaver, wallpaper, wall calendar, mousepad, etc.), Jackson Hole, and Yellowstone.

People go to Cleveland to visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I’ll add a vote for North Dakota. My family used to go there on vacation to visit a Great Aunt, but now that she’s gone, there’s really not much to see.
Mississippi, and they’ve even got casinos and antebellum mansions!
Much of Mississippi is beautiful but they believed that floating large casino buildings were much more moral than stationary casinos because they technically floated on water and therefore were not really part of the state. That bitch Katrina sure knew how to toss them around a few miles inland though.

One of my favorite places in the world is [Natchez, MS](http://www.visitnatchez.com/custom/webpage3.cfm?content=content&id=29). That place is really pretty and very rich. If you want to see the Old South, that is the place. We got invited to a Confederate Ball weekend there that must have cost millions in total. Nice.
