+1 on the QC35. At my old place with a single plank wooden wall and jalousie windows between us, my neighbor would play videogames and it was loud. Put on the headphones and all outside noise completely disappeared. I used to wear them for hours at a time and they were very comfortable.

Fortunately my new place is dead quiet. Brick walls and a steel door keep my place dead quiet.

I’m not usually seeking audio isolation, and can’t offer the OP any personal experience with noise cancellation. I recently bought (several) pairs of “on the ear” wireless Plantronic headphones that I (and my wife) are very happy with. They weren‘t reviewed on rtings.com, but the rtings people say some nice things in general about Plantronics.

My daughter had an interesting take on Bluetooth headphones. I offered her a pair, and she gave them back because the wouldn’t play soft enough. That was something I hadn’t seen covered in reviews, but I understood her complaint. Both the Plantronic headphones and some JBLs I own have distinct steps in volume, and even the lowest setting is somewhat assertive.

I bought Bose QuietComfort 35 headphones a year ago or so, mostly for use on airline flights. Last week, I used them to watch movies and TV on a flight, and found that they really do make a difference. Yes, they’re expensive, but they do work.

I recieved Bose QC35 headphones as a gift a few years ago. My gf tapped me on the shoulder while we were flying recently. I removed my headphones and she asked what I was listening to (I was reading my kindle). I put the headphones on her, and she smiled! It is a game changer for air travel. Guess what she is getting for Valentine’s Day?
