Boy, that’s a relief! Now I can visit my main squeeze in Saskatoon!
More to the point, how do I feel about homophobic people? I sure as hell am not going to “tolerate” them or their particular brand of insanity. Do I “hate” them? Well yes, sometimes they really get to me, but I remind myself that I’m only hurting myself.
But isn’t it ironic that they define me by whom I love, and I define them by whom they hate?
This is off topic but since it was asked here I’ll reply here.
Quick answer: No.
Long Answer:
Different views isn’t my issue. People imposing their different views on me is. As a Senator, and a powerful Senator at that, Jesse Helms directly affects ME.
Being a bigot and a racist are just two of his more charming qualities. His ideal vision of this country is, in my view, one of South Africa 20 years ago. I do NOT want that country and I take exception to those who would try to bring that about. It’s great that his office will help out fellow Carolinians in a pinch. However, I don’t even get that modicum of benefit from the man (not that it’d make much of a difference for me…he’d still be an asshole).
Finally, by your reckoning, then I really shouldn’t hate someone like Hitler because really all we have are differing viewpoints.
I don’t think so.
North Carolinians should be deeply ashamed having that man represent them (and FWIW a VERY large number of Carolinians don’t want him there either…the man has never won an election with more than 55% of the vote…hardly a mandate from the voters).
