IIRC, it was pneumatic lifting. I drove a Citroën BX in the 80s. What a lovely car it was to drive. Really fast, and when I was stopped at a red light, I used to drop the front suspension suddenly just before I took off, so I looked like I was driving a dragster. (Gimme a break, I was a teenager - at least I wasn’t spinning the tires - and I pre-empted those wacky rap video cars by two decades.) ---

{curly chick} its '96 - one of the final batches. Had to pay top whack for it ( only had 48K on it 3 years ago) but well worth it. You can pick a good one up from Eng / Scot for around 5k - 7k. Im guessing the Irish insurance on a vr6 would be extortionate ! Get saving ! Sin {curly chick} ---

I drive a brand new [Saab 9-3 Aero](http://www2.saabusa.com/93s/features.asp) with all the bells and whistles, including sat nav which is an absolute lifesaver in london… It’s not mine, though, but a company car. ---

Oh, and I had a M-reg (1994) [BMW 318i](http://www.whatcar.com/RoadTest_Summary.asp?DL=0&RT=184488) before that; I only got rid of it because I was commuting a lot further and don’t have to pay for petrol with my company car… 110k miles on it, still ran like a champ, and was an absolutely fantastic fun ride… ---

Toyota Echo - I think they call it something else (I mean besides ‘Echo’ - not ‘Toyota’, obviously) overseas. Not very nifty but reliable and good for parking. I got the last available at the time, so didn’t have to go through the palaver of choosing the colour. It’s sort of blood red. They have a fancier name for it, of course, which I instantly forgot. ---

Burgundy '96 Toyota Corolla 1.6 litre 5 speed manual hatch. It’s a great little car. Got grunt to be competent on the freeway, but it also runs on the smell of an oily rag, and it’s bulletproof reliable. I bought it second hand three years ago, and since then all I’ve had to do is the regular servicing. Nothing ever goes wrong with it (and my girlfriend drives it most of the time and she’s a car killer). Prior to that, I owned a 5.0 Litre V8 1972 automatic vinyl-roofed Ford Fairlane pimpmobile. A bit of a difference. I loved that car, but I’m not the type to properly be able to give it the loving attention it needed. So it fell to bits. ---

[Citroen Xsara Picasso](http://www.autotrend.com/pic/9939.jpg) - sort of like a huge metallic egg on wheels. I’m changing it in February for the [Skoda\* Octavia](http://www.channel4.com/4car/media/motorshows/geneva2004/03-large/skoda-octavia-f3q.jpg), which just looks like a car. \*Skoda has something of a reputation (for making really crappy cars) that is no longer justified and it is trying very hard to shake off - as a result, you get a lot of car for the price and the quality is brilliant, because they are trying so hard. ---
