To reply to the OP: A Chinese friend of mine says that her friends in China are quite gleeful/schaudenfreude-ish on social media over what the virus is doing in America. So they are indeed perfectly aware of the harm that Covid-19 is doing in America, just not in the way you prefer. Not sure about their attitudes of what Covid-19 is doing in Europe or other nations though. ---

For what it’s worth, [American views of China are now at their most unfavorable level (66%) since Pew Research Center started tracking the question](https://www.pewresearch.org/global/2020/04/21/u-s-views-of-china-increasingly-negative-amid-coronavirus-outbreak/) in 2005. ---
