I’m thinking it’s something along these lines: when he was middle-aged, he started losing skin tone, likely turning paler or more mottled as he aged. So he started using a bronzer. He found a brand and color he liked, and he’s stuck with the same one for 30 years, even though he’s had to put on more and more and it looks faker and faker as he has aged. Sure, he could change to some other brand or color, but he’s just going to keep on doing what once worked. ---
