Nook Vs. Kindle

I did the screensaver hack and font hack prior to the last system update, but will never do it again. The problem is your Kindle won’t accept a version update with the hacks installed, so you must uninstall the hacks, accept the system update, and then reinstall the hacks. For me, it just wasn’t worth the time and headache to go through the process of reapplying the hacks. I’ve learned to live with the dead authors.

The K3 has the ability to put books in “categories”. A book can be in one or more categories. If the book has not been placed in a category, it’s part of the home screen listing.

I had no love for Amazon either…until I got my Kindle.

Yep, no back lighting on the Kindle, although I wouldn’t be surprised if they included it in the next version. It’s not been a problem for me, even when reading in bed as I use an attachable book light, which is what I did when I used to read real books in bed, so nothing’s changed for me. Actually, I find it difficult to read for extended periods of time on devices with back-lit screens, which is why I don’t read books on my iPad.

There’s no touch screen on the Kindle, but you can look up the definitions of words you select.

Yep, battery life on the Kindle is amazing. I can read for over a week without having to recharge, then it takes, I believe, just an hour, or possibly less, to do so.

Yeah, the Nook is slightly heavier, but it not like comparing a brick to a feather. It’s a little heavier. Big deal. I certainly didn’t consider weight when purchasing my Kindle.

I can, supposedly, put music files on my Kindle as well, but I haven’t and won’t. When I read I want to be immersed. I don’t see how adding a music track can augment this experience.

Hey, that’s a really good idea! I think I’ll steal it. My wife would be absolutely thrilled to have hundreds of books preloaded for her.

Yes, you can organize your books into groups on the Kindle. However, it’s called Collections instead of Bookshelves.
By the way, I know you addressed this before, but when I read your screen name, I still hear it in my head as: Nori New.

The statement above, from my previous post, is not completely accurate. I did consider weight when purchasing my Kindle; the ability to carry 50 books at a time without breaking my back was one of my main reasons for considering an e-reader. To be precise, I didn’t consider the weight of other e-readers before deciding on the Kindle.

Oh, I don’t listen to music while I read, either. But if I put music files on it, I guess I could listen to it in the car (when I shouldn’t be reading anyway  ); there’s a stretch I drive pretty frequently that doesn’t have any decent (to me) radio stations available, and my antiquated mini van has a cassette tape player, not a CD player. :frowning:

Totally steal it. I was delighted. And we’ve been married 22 years, so he already knew what I like.

That is so common that these days (well, for the past few years), when I attend dope fests, I introduce myself as nori new!

Can I ask where you found Harry Potter on ebook? My wife has looked everwhere and was not able to find it.

Well, since they were pre-loaded when I got it, I’m not sure. I’ll try to remember to ask my hubby when he comes home.

I’m Jealous. We’ve been married for a little over 20 years, and I still don’t know what she likes…or why it’s the end of the world if I leave a sock or two around.

It’s probably an “illegal” copy since JK Rowling has said that she will never release them on eBook.

(It was talked about in May 2010, but since nothing’s changed…)

It could be an “illegal” copy. Hubby’s kind of a rebel.
