I doubt they have nukes, and I don’t remember seeing that mentioned in the press anywhere.
they’re just shaking the tree.
I doubt they have nukes, and I don’t remember seeing that mentioned in the press anywhere.
they’re just shaking the tree.
I see here the dilemma:
People believe in massmedia.
Powell knows that NK has already nukes.
some days after Pres. Bush explains why Iraq, and to some extent, why not NK.
It is alarming when the massmedia does not ask why??
And people believe in mass-media, that is the real kicker. Amazingly stupid!
Please folks, read also news through the Net from the other side of the world. All colours. You can find all kind of “news”. They are not better, they are not worse, than Your own. Do not believe in any of them.
You can think by Yourself and come to a conclusion that is much more nearer one countys news-services who are just writing from each other like teenagers copying their notes from classes.
Believe only in what You have cross-checked!!!
Have a nice day
from Henry (orginates from Finland)
So do not post some shit-gulag-answers to me
Thank You
I invite Chumpsky to travel to North Korea and get us the Straight Dope.
Take Henry with you.
Well, here’s one reputable news source saying that there’s still room for doubt about what North Korea has or has not admitted.
The Guardian is a respected UK newspaper, albeit with an avowedly left-wing stance, but can generally be trusted on a straight factual matter like this.
It quotes Japanese and South Korean officials speculating that this current crisis has been fabricated by the Americans, for reasons of their own.
Link doesn’t work, trythis
Thanks for addressing Brutus’s cite. But would you let us know what you consider to be reputable international news sources?
The BBC’s timeline on the US/NK crisis contains the following relevant tidbit:
timeline
AFAIK, they’ve not retracted that objection.
The claim only covers possession of bombs, not an entire nuke program, but it does lend a bit of credence to Chumpsky’s assertions.
I’m not sure just whois behind Brutus’ “commie” link. However, at first glance, Tom_Tobback of Beijing, China lacks that cachet of crediblity which surrounds the BBC.
We should regard any such ambiguities as an opportunity. It offers the chance to stroke our collective chin thoughtfully and say “Hmmmmm, you may have a point. Whatsay we submit this to mutually acceptable arbitration, something along those lines?”
The ugly part is: relative calm with NK increases the likelihood of war with Iraq. However, since that appears to be somewhere North of 90% anyway…
Mehitabel, if it really matters I am a Canadian. My ‘anti-Americanism’ as it is sometimes called (in reality just a general distrust of your government’s motives - as well, of course that of my own, and really all governments) is reflexive, maybe even instinctive, and is what you would maybe call a mainstream element of society here. Where I grew up we talk back to the news, and always question money interests.
Chumpsky, what I mean to say is that while there are exceptions, the issues of the left get pushed aside despite the forums existing for their exposure. This is yes in part due to the neo-cons who have pushed the media agenda way to the right, but also partly the fault of the moderate left which did not put up much of a fight, who just ‘go with the flow,’ who go home and vote left after working all day in support of the propaganda machine.
>Where I grew up we talk back to the news, and always question money interests.
Heh. So did we. And I lived half my life in Massachusetts, where it was an even stronger tendency. In fact, we invented questioning the government down here–we’re the rebellious daughter who left home, Canada’s the good girl who stayed at home with Mummy Britannia
Thanks for answering though. But it looks like Canada is having the same problem of media consolidation as we are in America. You don’t have to be as paranoid as Chumpsky to recognize this as a problem.
Oh, BTW, NK? Got nukes.
Ah, oui, Israel “We should violently overthrow the Cdn Govt. because they aren’t pro-Israeli enough” Asper actually makes me miss the ‘good old days’ of Conrad “I hate this country because I’m subject to the same laws as every other citizen” Black.
I’m still waiting to find out how the NK ambassador being quoted on an NK website using the word “renewed”, which is in the past tense, means NK will have a nuclear program if there aren’t any negotiations.
So, one more time, Chumpsky, how did that wind up in the future tense in your universe?
I’m prepared to wait for as long as it takes for the answer.
Mods: my apologies if my characterization of Chumpsky was off-base in this forum.
All we need is Naxox to show up here and we’ll have a TinFoil Hat Jubilee.
Help help! He’s being repressed!
NOW I see the violence inherent in our capitalistic system.
I think chumpsky’s right — we should start an autonomous collective.
By the way, Chumpsky, among the others taken in by the Capitalist Web of Deceit are the United Nations and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
It just goes to prove that except for a small band of raving loons…oops, excuse me, dedicated defenders of the proletariat - the world is being taken in by the fiendish plots of the Robber Barons and their goal of subjugating the world/creating Armageddon/forcing everyone to consume Big Macs, drive SUVs and watch the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
I tremble.
I would also point out to Chumpsky that NK has multiple nuclear facilities. They are reopening their main one. They simply never abided by their agreement to close the others.
What I love most about Chumpsky and his ilk is that they always accuse the US Evil Imperialists of omnipotence and incompetence at the same time.
Here, the omnipotent aspect is that the US is able to convince the entire world of a horrific slander, that North Korea has violated its word and treaty obligations, and has an ongoing nuclear program.
The incompetent aspect is that the US would chose to engage in this horrific slander at a time when it is already distracted by its Evil Imperialist conflicts with Iraq and Al-Qaeda. Even more incompently, this particular slander at this point in time harms their plans to take over Iraq and give its oil to their Takes-us friends, ‘cause it makes blatant the Evil Imperialists’ hypocrisy by attacking one (falsely accused) nuclear state that has oil while not attacking the other (falsely accused) nuclear state.
Chumpsky, how did such a group of Evil Imperialist Nincompoops manage to take over the world? If the Righteous Forces such as yourself weren’t able to stop such poltroons, you guys have got to be the biggest bunch of blithering idiots the world has ever known.
Sua
Goodness me, Sua, you have spiraled into whole new levels of rhetorical nonsense. Is this how debate is conducted on your home planet?
You can, of course, provide us with multiple cites of how our “ilk”…"always accuse the US Evil Imperialists of omnipotence and incompetence at the same time. ". Since the operative word is always, surely this cannot be a challenge for one as sharply cognizant of our failings as you?
As for the phrase “Evil Imperialists”: that brings up the question Are there “nice” Imperialists? Imperialism Lite?
As for the comparison with Nazi Germany and Poland: a most unfortunate analogy, on several levels. Germany at least tried to pretend that Poland had crossed its borders to stage an attack on a radio station. Nobody believed it for a second, of course, but a minimal attempt was made, in order to appear in compliance with the principal of defensive war.
All we have is a form of international clairovoyance: we know Saddam bin Laden is planning to attack us, because he’s evil. Evil always attacks good, and we are good. Therefore, we are justified in making defensive war, based on a theoretical attack at some future date.
Pity Tojo didn’t think of that. What an ironclad defense that would have made! “Miss Cleo-san advised America was planning to attack! We had no choice!”
Likely we would have hanged him anyway. War criminal, you know. Waged aggressive war, defined as attacking a nation that has not attacked you. Ah, well, that’s very different, isn’t it? They’re Japanese, after all. We are much taller.
