Yes, I went through the Network and Sharing Center stuff and set everything to be as “unsecure” as possible. Also tried both options for that 128-bit or 56-bit or whatever security setting (sorry, don’t have the exact wording of the option in front of me).
One suggestion I found on some message board claimed his server machine name had a hyphen in it, and when he renamed it without a hyphen — voila! Problem solved! :dubious: Sure enough, our server had a hyphen, so I renamed it and — voila! Uh, wait a minute… Problem not solved.
Another suggestion recommended going to Control Panel–>Admin Tools–>Local Security Policy–>Local Policy–>Security Options and setting “Network Access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts and shares” to be “Disabled”.
Problem: On our Windows 7 server, under Admin Tools, there is no Local Security Policy or any other kind of Policy anywhere that I could find. I that some option add-on I need to download? I began to wonder how many all-different operating systems there are, all calling themselves Windows 7.
I’m hoping now that if I can just find a way to make Norton360 butt out enough for me to try it that way, everything will magically be okay and we’ll live happily ever after.
ETA: Just found my notes with the exact error I get (hope I can type it in 5 minutes or less):
