Maybe a mod will pick this up and answer it for me. I’m a Newbie, just signed on this a.m. My first thread got closed kinda early, other posts around it were still open. Anyway, I went back to the board to thank those nice folks who were quick enough to respond to my initial question and that post got closed immediately!.I don’t know if i’ve done something wrong or not done something I should have or what. Could someone enlighten me?
Just in case this one gets hammered as well, I want to thank **polycarp** **earylout** **Zsofia** **Eva Luna** and **Johnnie LA**. I still need more info but what I got was Great!

If [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=305484) is the one you’re referring to, it still seems to be open. If there was another one that was closed and deleted or something, it could have been for any of a number of reasons.

The only other thread you have is [thsi one](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=305505), which is also still open.
Perhaps you are having some kind of browser problem, or perhaps you don’t know what indicates whether a thread has been closed or not?

I think you may be mistaking the closed envelope icon for a locked thread. The closed envelope just means that there are no new posts. If the envelope has a little padlock over it, then the thread has been closed and locked. But even then, it’s still readable.
The best way to figure out how things work around here is to read the FAQs and stickies in **About This Message Board**. That should answer most of your questions.

Geez, I didn’t realize it bothered any of you that much.
I try to adopt this sort of thing as a means of making myself individual on the boards–standing out in some way. Not much else about my posts is different from any other Doper around here. But I can see where it gets to be going overboard.

I’ll be honest and say that for me your means of making yourself individual on the board is liable to induce vomiting. Keep it out of the Pit - at least in MPSIMS I know which threads to avoid, but when I click on what seems to be an innocent misplaced thread by a new poster and find yet another of your girly-scrawl-written-in-pink-ink-with-smilies-dotting-the-i’s posts littering the place, it’s time for a quiet corner and a bucket.
