My DVD wish list: **Johnny Got His Gun** \*\*El Topo \*\* **Schindler’s List** (I have the Asian DVD, it’s ripped off a videotape and not very watchable) \*\*The Godfather Epic \*\* (the chronological editing of parts 1 and 2 together with extra footage that shows on TV frequently) ---

I was looking into some of these titles and ran across a couple of references (sorry, I don’t have cites right now) to an “ultimate edition” release of _12 Monkeys_. I was ready to buy the currently available “special edition” (or is it "collector’s edition?–it’s all so confusing) Anyway, now I’m going to have to wait, damn it! **Cholo** , thanks for the info on the _Dances With Wolves_ release. I’m looking forward to that! ---

Oh yeah, and I meant to add: fucking Disney. They buy up the rights to all these great movies, and then sit on them. They bought the whole Studio Ghibli catalog, so that means they get US distribution rights to _all_ of the movies, even though they’re only ever going to release the more “kid-friendly” ones. Which means that _Pom Poko_ has a 0.00001% chance of ever seeing a US release (what with all the testicles), and _Porco Rosso_ is only slightly more likely. A lot of people got excited to hear about the first batch of Disney releases, but to me it’s even more evidence that they won’t release any Ghibli movie unless it has a young girl as the protagonist. ---

I third **Miller’s Crossing** (which is proclaimed as “Coming Soon to DVD” on the **Raising Arizona** DVD, which has been out for quite a while now)… And second Kenneth Branagh’s **Hamlet** - I’d take it without any ‘extra’s’ (except widescreen and DTS, of course)… -bbb- ---

I’ve said it [before](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=137449) and I’ll say it again: I’d like to see _To Live and Die in L.A._ on DVD. I last saw it in theaters back when it came out in 1985 and remember it as a very uneven film with [ul][li]A fine cast (Willem Dafoe, William L. Petersen, John Turturro and Robert Downey Sr., among others)[/li][li]An incredible car chase[/li][li]The quintessential 80s soundtrack[/li][li]Lovely cinematography by Robby Mueller[/li][li]Pretentious, cringe-worthy dialogue[/li][li]An ending that _wasn’t_ what you’d expect from a Hollywood crime drama[/li] and, finally, Jane Leeves (“Daphne Moon” on Frasier) as a lingerie-clad lesbian bimbo[/ul]After all this time, I’m pretty sure I’ll be disappointed if I finally do get to see it again, but, dammit, I’d like to have that opportunity… ---

Hey, this is pretty terrific news about **Miller’s Crossing.** Having reached the tender age of 32, I begin to realize I am particularly susceptible to the thrones of nostalgia – particularly the TV shows I used to watch growing up. I haven’t seen any of the [Deputy Dawg](http://www.yesterdayland.com/popopedia/shows/saturday/sa1029.php) cartoons I used to watch anywhere since I was about ten, or the [Ultraman](http://www.yesterdayland.com/popopedia/shows/saturday/sa1368.php) TV shows, or the original broadcast version of **Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry** and some of the **Our Gang** and [The Little Rascals](http://www.yesterdayland.com/popopedia/shows/movies/mv1595.php) shorts. ---

Lion King. I know Disney releases movies slowly, so as to not glut the market, and maintain a mystique. But TLK is probably one of their highest (if not highest) grossing movies. I realize that it came to video before DVD technology was as common as it is now. It’s being shown in IMAX theaters. Disney should make an exception and release it on DVD, if even only for an even more limited time than it currently does. ---

The **Indiana Jones trilogy** … I’m assuming they’re waiting for #4 to pop out so they can dump it all into a collector’s box set or something. Actually, my father brought back the original trilogy from Korea, where they’ve been released with Korean subtitles (which, fortunately, you can turn off). They don’t look like bootlegs, so I’m assuming they were licensed for DVD release overseas… Also… I further the motion for **Schindler’s List**. There’s also a lot of indie rock concerts and stuff that I’d like to see on DVD… ---
