I don’t list that I’m straight because it seems heterosexist to do so just so people don’t think I’m gay, and if I’m in a positive situation with a girl she’s going to know I’m interested from my actions, not from my Facebook.

Also, I don’t want people to feel betrayed if I decide to fuck a dude. 😉

I did it twice so far. Once for this same reason although there wasn’t a group for us (there’s probably only a couple dozen worldwide and this guy was also Canadian and virtually the same age). The other time was when our own \*\*Idle Thoughts \*\* added those on the SDMB groups.

Regarding the OP, I answer all the profile questions even though since I’m married it’s irrelevant as well.
Edit: I just checked it looks like I didn’t answer the “Interested In” I answered Looking For: Friendships, Networking and noted Married. So as a far as anybody else is concerned if it wasn’t for the fact I live in Texas I could be straight or gay.

Wow, I feel flattered. 🙂

Me, I have mine up, course a lot of people still think I’m gay simply because I buy both sexes (I.E. Everyone on my friends list) in a lot of the friend buying applications.

The level of candor that I employ in my blog on Myspace probably precludes my attractiveness to any gender, but the outlet is provieds to express my self-loathing and misanthropy is more important than the false hope of online dating. At first I didn’t check anything, but then I decided it would be more forthcoming of me to appear as a bitter old straight white guy than a scolding, past his sell-by date queer.

[QUOTE=HazelNutCoffee]
Question: is using Facebook as a place to meet new people a recent trend, or is it something that’s been going on for awhile but that I just haven’t noticed? I feel like when it was restricted to students there was less of that stuff going on, but maybe I just wasn’t paying attention.

My Facebook friends are mostly RL friends. The only exceptions are Dopers.

This is a really good question. I don’t think I’ve EVER been friend requested by someone I didn’t already know from somewhere in my real life, whereas when I had an active MySpace profile, I got multiple requests every day from people I had no idea about. I wonder if it’s a regional thing, too. I’ve never heard of it happening to any of my friends in Finland, either.
