Notable people without living descendants

A very obvious answer is the Last Russian Royal Family, the Romanovs: Nichols, Alexandria, Olga, Tatiana, Maria, Anastasia, and Alexei.

Nope. Just a silly old fart.

Me.

Friedrich Nietzsche

I think the Douglas MacArthur line died out. I had the pleasure of meeting a great-great-great-grandson of US Grant. Wonderful old Army family.

Hitler
James Buchanan
Napolean?

Douglas MacArthur’s son Arthur is, as far as I know, still alive, although living under a different name.

Wasn’t/isn’t he a piano bar guy?

Isaac Newton.

Napoleon has living descendants through his illegitimate son Alexander Walewski. The boy’s mother was the glamorous Countess Marie Walewska. Napoleon recognized Alexander as his son. There’s a picture of Alexander at Alexandre Colonna-Walewski - Wikipedia He bears an unmistakable resemblance to Napoleon.

I believe there may have been another bastard son alive at the time that Napoleon was sent to St. Helena, but I don’t have any information beyond a recollection that in exile he expressed concern about the boy’s welfare. Does anybody know who the boy was and if he left descendants?

Napoleon had a legitimate son, Napoleon II, aka L’Aiglon, but he died at the age of 21 or 22 without heirs.

Who could fault Arthur MacArthur for changing his name?

His grandfather didn’t. Neither did his great grandfather. Nor his uncle.

No, me!

Henry VIII

Julius Caesar, if I am not mistaken.

Those who grew up reading Laura Ingalls Wilder’s “Little House” books may be surprised to know that none of Laura’s family have any living descendants. Laura and Almanzo Wilder had one daughter, who as an adult wrote under her married name, Rose Wilder Lane. RWL had no children. None of Laura’s sisters had any children, either.

No, he has plenty of living descendants from his numerous illegitimate children. Including…

David Cameron (the current Leader of the Opposition).

Rudyard Kipling.

Sultan Qaboos of Oman

Robert Heinlein.
