[After 90 years, Pooh returns to Hundred Acre Wood in sequel](http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2009/jan/10/pooh-bear-sequel-david-benedictus) That’s right; they’re writing a sequel to Winne the Pooh, in order to make a ton of money, because people will buy it. Are there any classic children’s books left that _don’t_ have a sequel or three written to milk cash out of an already overexhausted franchise? I mean, children’s and YA publishing is currently full of interesting and original books (if a few too many Harry Potter knockoffs that shouldn’t have made it to the shelves); do we really need to strip-mine past authors too? The end is nigh. Grrr. ---

Disney’s been whoring the hell out of Pooh for years. This is nothing new. (Although this book is meant to be in the style of the Milne/Shepard Pooh as opposed to the Disney Pooh.) ---

Maurice Sendak? Though they are making a movie out of Where the Wild Things Are. Or they were. I saw a clip and the monsters looked so goofy. They already made little animated films out of a lot of his stuff, anyway. ---

The day I found out that they were making a sequel to Harry Potter 8 (well, they’re splitting it up into 2 parts- the movie. 8.1 and 8.2- kill bill style)… That’s when I realized the Wu Tang were right all along… Cash Rules Everything Around Me. Gotta get that Dolla dolla bill, y’all… C.R.E.A.M. ---

I’m not sure any sequel could be worse than ["Return to the Secret Garden](http://www.amazon.com/Return-Secret-Garden-Susan-Moody/dp/0451192281). It’s about a love triangle between Mary, Dicken, and Colin, in which Mary and Colin are married, but both are actually in love with Dicken, who eventually kills himself from war related PTSD. It’s even worse than it sounds. Susan Moody absolutely spit on the original, one of my favorite childhood books. ---

I could have happily lived the rest of my life without knowing there was a sequel to\* the Secret Garden\*, especially with \*that \*plot, but having just ruined **chacoguy420’s** blissful ignorance, I’ll have to take my karma. _TSG_ was one of my favourite books too. ---

Recently there came out a [prequel to Anne of Green Gables.](http://www.amazon.ca/Before-Green-Gables-Budge-Wilson/dp/0670067210) I haven’t read it, really it doesn’t appeal to me and I’m afraid to though the reviews I read were positive. ---
