I’ll admit, many of our current fashions will be silly on reflection (hell, quite a few are silly now), but many past generations are guilty of this as well. As evidence, I present to you the years 1970-1994. And, just like you think my Ugg boots look silly, I think your flower printed capri pants and keds look silly too. You can make fun of us youngins and our style (hell, we dont even know what it was like in your day- when you had to walk 4 miles, up hill in the show without any shoes! Kids nowadays…), but we get to pick on your clothes, too. That’s how it works. But you know what we can all agree on? Nothing is funnier then a 50 year old woman with blonde streaks in her hair, an orange tan, Ugg boots, a Von Dutch hat, low rise jeans (showing her freshly done hip tattoo), belly piercing, and belly shirt. Nevermind. Mullets are still funnier. ---

No, it wasn’t really about young peoples’ fashion being stupid and “grown-up” fashion being all okay. I agree that you get silly outfits right across the board, just in different ways. I’m also not condemning you for giggling at them once in a while- I am certainly not above doing that either. However, I thought some of your comments crossed the line ino being a bit too judgemental of anyone not comforming to the beauty mag norm. The reason this gets to me a bit is that I do plenty of beautiful people who dread their Summer wardrobe because they can’t cover up their “ugly” untoned bodies. I think this is sad. I think everyone should be able to walk around in a floaty dress/cool tank top on a hot Summer’s day without feeling they should cover up their arms. I also have a soft spot for gothy kids even though I do agree about this being its own brand of conformity (and I love that t-shirt, **Voodoo Lou**!). Perhaps conformity is the new non-conformity. But then you don’t get to play with black nailpolish and be accused of Satan worship by the neighbours that way, which would surely be a shame. Okay, point made, I will try to stop taking this thread to very seriously now. ---

Saw one of those in our cafeteria today – mid-'60’s gal, with indian-motif silkscreen 3/4 sleeve tummy-top, lo-rise buttonfly cords (highwaters) with 1" heel flowery sandals … … and a white white white pot belly. Just like mine, but with less fur. No, wait - _whiter_. At least she didn’t have glaringly obvious collagen injections. On a sadder note, her shoulders were terribly rounded, forward - that’s a sign of osteoperosis, no? ---

I am not thin at all, and if you ever met me in real life, you’d know. I’m always hovering around 200 pounds and I’m about 5’10", so even though I don’t look “fat” if I’m fully dressed, nobody would ever confuse me with being skinny either. I thought you might mean _thick_ white guys can’t pull them off, so I might still try to find my dream fedora. I’m worried because I sweat a lot, and I wouldn’t want to ruin a good hat by soaking it through, though. ---
