You might be interested in _The Crystal Cave_ by Mary Stewart - the beginning of her series about Merlin. The action moves back and forth from Britain to Gaul, just at the point when druidism was on the decline, Mithraism was still around (Merlin himself followed Mithras for a period in the novel), and Christianity was just one of several religions in the area.

King of Ys series by Poul & Karen Anderson.

The SPQR series by John Maddox Roberts are excellent mysteries set in the last days of the Republic. Way better than Saylor in terms of authenticity. I know that’s not what you wanted, **Coremel** t but in case others are reading this.😛
