Some asshole stole my credit card number and charged some stuff in New Jersey this morning. I know this happens to pretty much everybody at some point, and it isn’t ultimately a huge deal: Wells Fargo caught it almost immediately, wiped the charges (about $100, though I’m sure they were just getting started), closed the account, and is sending me a new card. And I do have a second card I can use in the meantime. But this is my first go-round with this in 10 years of using credit cards and it’s pissing me off. Now I have to remember what I had auto-billing to that account and go fix all of it. I’m not too concerned about identity theft, ironically, because all my data was already stolen earlier in the year in the University of Maryland security breach and I already went through the whole rigamarole of freezing my credit reports and setting up a monitoring service. So, yay? ---

I got fired almost two months ago. It was BS so I filled a grievance and my former employer dragged out the process as long as possible and refused to budge, despite another employee having been involved in a similar but much more serious incident that happened a few months earlier which didn’t even warrant a write up. I can see where I’m not wanted, so I abandoned the process short of arbitration and I got hired by a major competitor doing the same job for an initial pay cut during training but better benefits. Yesterday was my first day, and when I took lunch I saw a crap ton of missed calls from my old union rep. When I had a chance to call him back he said that my former employer wants to reinstate me.😕 I told him it costs 2 months back pay and a written apology in hand to get my attention, otherwise they can kiss my shiny metal ass. ---

All of the autobill payments I have now are linked to the credit card number; in fact, for annual subscriptions, the biller will often notify me if the card number I have on file with them is about to expire. ---

Lost a filling and broke a corner of my rearmost molar on the left upper - I swear I picked over my lentils and got all the damned pebbles out. _sigh_ At least the dentist managed to get me in last thing this evening before they closed, but now my jaw has that odd soreness now the 'caine has worn off and it feels like my bite is lopsided, but it really isn’t, we doublechecked, it is just because the side of my face is traumatized. ---

Mine are about 50/50. Half of mine are directly linked to my debit card and half are ACH withholding from my checking account. My card was set to expire this month, so the bank sent me a new card with an expiration further in the future. I had to update the accounts on my card with the new expiration. The ones that come from my checking account I didn’t have to worry about. (Even though funds for my debit card come from my checking account, there’s a difference in how the billers handle the transaction. My debit card is treated like a credit card for those transactions in which it’s used.) ---

I think they want to reinstate you because their legal counsel has determined them to be in the wrong and you may potentially sue and win. Seek legal counsel, this May end up netting you a tidy settlement , but I’d seriously reconsider returning to your old job. What’s to say they won’t do this again, and you may be viewed as “that troublemaker” ---
