I don’t think they really had “seize the opportunity” for Afghanistan. It may have just been an added bonus to GWB that a country that was logistically important for a pipeline also happened to be a big time supporter and home base of Al-Queda. But to intone that GWB’s motivating factor in invading Afghanistan was an oil pipeline is just plain goofy.
