Perhaps I’m an outlier, but I’m a native Michigander and didn’t hear about HOMES until late in life. But I was a bit of a map geek (in addition to math and science geek) so I never had the need for a mnemonic device. Nobody but nobody is going to pay attention to this bullshit. Except maybe if Google wants federal contracts for whatever they’ll put it on Google maps. ---

As a Michigander I don’t remember being taught HOMES but it sounds plausible. I’m not even confident I could label them correctly. I’m not really a geography person. I’m still trying to figure out where I live. I’m not about to change any of their names though. I wish people would figure out that you don’t have to go along with this administration’s dumb shit. If most people just said “no” we’d be a lot better off. ---

Yeah. The USA used to be the defacto leader of the Western nations. I doubt we’ll ever regain that status. Once upon a time, the UK was top dog. Once upon a time Austria (the heart of the holy Roman empire) was the center of Europe, and mattered. Nations rise and nations fall. We’ve fallen. I expect China will end up on top, but who knows.
