Now listen up, all you sons of bitches. It's Lake America now

This is how we used to do it in Ontario, but not anymore. School boards are funded directly be the province on a capitation basis. The education portion of property tax all goes to the provincial budget, regardless of your declaration of board support. The only thing it affects is which of the four slates of school trustees you vote for - English Public, English Catholic, French Public, or French Catholic.

Just because I don’t remember it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. If it did happen, I forgot about it pretty quickly.

Unless you count the taxpayer money he’s spent keeping his governments antics out of scrutiny by the general public & also the media, that is. An affront to democracy.
And let’s ignore his dumbass tunnel & airport schemes etc. Gawd knows what those workouts have cost - he sure won’t tell anyone.
Those on the lower rungs of society are the least of his concerns. Re health & education; you may want to have a chat with several teachers & health care workers about how the system is actually operating, or not. Environmental concerns speak for themselves. He’d pave the entire province given the opportunity. OK, maybe not quite, but land developers will be sorry when he goes. As will the US businesses he’s heavily invested in (something he strangely doesn’t boast of while he’s busy on his populist pulpit).
Now he’s also sticking his nose into the justice system. Something he clearly knows (or cares) little about. Anything for a headline, in common with his federal Conservative counterpart.
Have a look beneath the headlines. Use various sources.
He was a dickhead long before his political career. Seems a thing with those that inherit the good life. His brother, despite his issues, had more ethics.
I’ll ignore your rude name calling. I’ll put it down to intellect.

The rising tide of stoopid floats all populists

This is going off-topic, but a telling fact about Doug Ford is that he never tried to sue the Globe and Mail for the article claiming that he was involved in drug dealing in high school - Globe investigation: The Ford family’s history with drug dealing - The Globe and Mail

Just wondering if Trump plans to rename Ontario, California. It was named after the Canadian province.

From the item:

He might have more success renaming this city, rather than (again) renaming an international body of water that the United States does not own. After all, Ontario, California, is wholly within the United States. Of course, the residents of Ontario, California might disagree with him, as they will now have to change their addresses with everybody, despite moving nowhere.

One way or another, President Ass-Clown can only do as much as direct organs of the US federal government to use the name “Lake America.” No one else has to. Rochester, New York said they would not be using that name. Even a city can use whatever name it/the laws of its state the give it. The federal government can theoretically call it by a different name (minor example: Pittsburgh was once termed “Pittsburg” without the “H” in US federal records), but this is not binding on the city’s own usage, or of its state.

You don’t need to own something to name it. And even if you own it, it’s hard to force anyone else to use your name for it. There’s not a universal international directory of names, and if there were, i could still call that pond i caught frogs in “frog pond”, whatever the rest of you call it.

No, but both the US and Canada have databases of official geographic names. I haven’t checked the Canadian one yet (I expect they’ve ignored this name change), but the US one has followed the directive. No surprise there, since it’s run by a part of the US Government.

ETA: Doing this search, I found there’s another Lake Ontario in North Dakota.

ETA2: I just searched the Canadian database for Lake America. The only hit was for Lac North America which is in Quebec. So, yes, they’ve ignored the whole thing.

Yes, of course the USGS keeps a directory of what it calls things, and Trump has authority over that. And I’m sure it contains names for lots of places of interest to the US that don’t belong to the US. No one else is bound by those names.

We have an Ontario, OR over here as well. 'Murika, OR has a nice ring to it…

It doesn’t have non-US places in that database. Well, except for things along the borders.

There is a set of gazetteers of other countries published by the Defence Mapping Agency (IIRC) that used to be accessible through the same interface as the USGS GNIS. But they’ve changed that interface and I can’t find them on the new interface.

There are a lot of things along the borders. I’m guessing that’s why Trump renamed lake Ontario, and not Toronto.

Don’t give him any ideas.

According to Mapquest’s general manager, they’ve had 1.5 million new downloads since refusing to rename Lake Ontario, and usage is through the roof. Suck on that, Google.

Go Trump get dumped.

Headline coming soon: “Mapquest general manager indicted for {hey, just make something up}”. Or maybe, in the best spirit of Stalin, “Mapquest general manager arrested by ICE in the middle of the night and never seen again”.
