It may work for others, though, which makes me wonder how long before Elmo brags about the big jump in signups under his brilliant management (and doubles his ad rates). Based on some quick checking, it looks like they treat Google as an exception; you see twitter text in search results but can’t click through unless you’re signed in. Appears intended to “encourage” account creation by baiting with partial exposure. ---

An interesting twist on the Hate-for-Musk’s-Twitter, is that I often see “news” (absolutely need the scare quotes) that is nothing more than a clickbait headline and a single sentence followed by pages of tweets about some current event. Both serious and not-so-serious journalism and commentary is little more than curated twitter threads. I wonder if they’ll just imbed images of the tweets, or if a bunch of low-effort individuals are going to be without their daily dose of attention. I find I don’t care either way. ---

“Data pillaging” sounds suspiciously like people just downloading stuff as you’d expect from an online social media platform. Reading between the lines, their servers are so crappy now since he fired most of his workers that they can’t handle their normal amount of traffic, and had to find a way to limit it. ---
