The rumors have always been that Musk wanted to turn Twitter into X. The way I’d expect a competent person to do that would be to create this thing called X, and make Twitter a subsidiary. Build up the other aspects, and slowly merge Twitter into that. Yeah, I know he’s reverse laundered Twitter’s reputation, so I could see wanting to rebrand to take off the stank. But, even in its fouled up state, the Twitter brand is still a significant part of the platform’s value. It’s not something to get rid of lightly, without even apparently planning anything about how it would happen. I would say that, whatever merit his X idea had before, this implementation seems to have sunk it. How can this be the same guy who seemed to be a branding genius before? Has something actually happened to him? ---

Twitter has been wholly owned by X Corp since March. X Corp is itself a wholly owned subsidiary of X Holdings, which is wholly owned by Musk. The stupid thing was dumping a brand name that still has significant value for a letter. And if the post about the trademark above is any indication, even dumber to use one owned by Zuck ---
