I’ve been lowering my expectations for the cybertruck even as reported prices for them keep going up, but I was one of the few people who said they’d own one if given, or even buy if the price was low enough (and by low, I said previously if they were marked down to $15-20k due to my near-certain imminent vehicular failure). But damn, that was some amazingly shitty build quality for a late model prototype. If that’s what the final result ends up looking like, I’d still (considering new car prices) lay down $10k maybe for one, tops. But damn, I’d claim I won in it in a raffle. ---

Incidentally, I used to work (sales, service and claims) for a couple of Auto Insurance companies. For vehicles with such a … custom … body shape, material, and (/s) tight tolerances, I really Really wonder how much it’ll cost to insure a 2023 Cybertruck. Considering some of the horror stories I’ve heard about parts and availability, I suspect any damage is going to take a loooong time to repair, with linked rental car costs (and most rental reimbursement is just that, reimbursement after repairs are DONE). All that considered, insurance companies tend to be risk-averse in the extreme, so I bet a bunch of carriers are going to price it sky high at first, and see how bad it gets. So a couple of educated guesses in the x3 (heh, X) cost of a comparatively priced EV for COMP/COLL, which already tend to insure at premium rates. ---

Yeah, I bet a low-speed bump by a regular truck would, at the same speed by that thing, cause significantly worse injury if you got hit by one of those corners. Much much smaller area of impact. It would be like getting hit by a spear. ---
